6MT Sedan Stock 1/4 Mile Results

Firebird Raceway Conditions 92F, adjusted tire pressure from 27 to 32, track at ~1200 feet, I am an above average driver, first time with this car, VDC off, launched at from 2000-4000 rpm.

I ran pretty consistent 14.4's to 14-6's, even with all the adjustments I made.

My two best
60' ------2.270-------2.284
330' -----6.190-------6.199
1/8--------9.401-------9.417
MPH-----77.19-------76.94
1000----12.143------12.169
1/4-------14.457------14.491
MPH------97.77-------97.47

I am fairly happy with the results, they work out to about 14.2 at sea level. I know I can do better on the 60' times, need more practice with this car. The top end is something I need to work on, but I need dyno results to find shift points. I shifted at 6900 (1-2), 6300 (2-3), 6300 (3-4)

That's impressive bro, good runs.
Have you considered shifting 1-2 at a lower rpm. Seems to me 6900 is past the best point. JMHO. From the graphs I've seen, HP and Torque fall off badly much past 62-6300. G/L

yeah i have, have you any experience? I would like to hear some advice from people who have played with the 1-2 shift point.

any lower than that and i break the wheel(s) free too long on the shift.

our gear ratios drop dramatically from 1-2 such that even with the drop in the torque curve I should still have more power in 1st at 6900 than i do in second at 4500 rpm (roughly where I drop down do.

Good results for the first time out!

With some better weather and if you can shave that 60' time you'll be running low 14's! The 6900 rpm shift might not be necessary for the 1-2 shift, but experimenting will determine this. Usually, you want to shift 400-500 rpms above your peak hp. What was your race weight?

Next time run the car naked...with the floor mats, spare tire and the 19 different trunk mats out, you shoul almost shave 2 tents off no BS...also, make sure you are practically on empty for gas as it weighs a lot too.

I am still shocked at the fact that the 02-03 Maxima is running so much better than these cars...very odd...When I ran my wife's car the slowest it ran was 14.6 and that beats almost every auto G35 time, if not all of em, that I have seen on this board...your time is better than hers, but by a smidgen and you have a stick...course I was almost at sea level which helps...

Well keep practicing and get them times down to 14.1-14.2...Rock On.

Makes me wonder if the sportshift is slower then the reg. automatic transmission. I bet the guys who have been posting there 1/4 miles times, got them by using the sportshift instead of letting the car shift itself. I'm curious to see if someone just lets the car shift itself if you will see a increase in perfomance. If so then the sportshift is really only a gimmick, which I have always been suspicious of.

i too am surprised at how the 2k2-2k3 maximas are running better times than the 5at g35s.......basically the same vq35, but fwd vs rwd.......the rwd with its weight transfer especially at launch should've posted better times..........or is it the driver?

Re: 6MT Sedan Stock 1/4 Mile Results

ummm, i still haven't figured out how to launch this thing yet.

in my 3.5 altima i was consistently at 2.26 (fwd). so far that is the best i have seen on the G. The clutch is kickin my ****.

Still at it though. I went to speed world to practice last night

it was freaking hot (95F air temp at 10 pm), my best time was a 14.59 at 98. my launches were all 2.3-2.4 60's. I am gonna master this high RPM launch yet. Sooner I kill these tires the better. I can launch at 1500 and get consistent 2.3's if I ever want to bracket race.

Saw an SRT-4 there with a driver that cannot launch either and he was running 14 flats at 103 or so

I dunno but I too say the same that those auto 3.5 Maximas are putting down slightly better times than the G35 auto's. This past Saturday at the track a stock Max did 14.65 and 14.69 stock and the G35 Sedan did 14.78 and 14.82 on 2 different runs weird.

We shall see what we shall see. I think the G should have come with 225 or 235 rubber personally.

remember the max's lose less hp thru the fwd drivetrain than we do.

once i get some appropriate rubber for this caliber of car, I don't think a max will hold a candle to the G. the altima is 300 lbs lighter than the G and dynoing about the same as the max stock.that is what you gots to look out for.

Maybe the Max was lighter than the G? What year Max was it? Most Max owners are mad over the fact the Altima as about the same hp on dyno and can smoke it. I was told that FWD cars actually have a little more hp since less drive train loss.

I havent heard of Altima smoking a 02/03 Max yet, to be honest in straightline acceleration the auto G35S/Max/3.5 Altima all feel very similiar in power and it will be a drivers race in the real world. None will outright smoke the other having driven each extensively.

Re: 6MT Sedan Stock 1/4 Mile Results

in a straight line the altima has an advantage over the max in that it is a 5 spd (one less shift) that is somewhat made up with by the max's available LSD.

Some stock MT altima's are running 14.1's to 14.3s as are the G. The fastest stock max is around 14.3 (that I know about and I check Maxima.org frequently)
