How can you manage 20-22 mpg? Something must be wrong with my car then. It currently has 4,000 miles and I drive in Long Island all the time too. I don't even rev the car that hard. The highest I've ever gotten was 19.99 mpg and that was almost all highway with a/c on. So far my avg mpg is right under 17. I use the premium highest octane gas.

If our 5 speed auto had a lower overdrive gear, this car would get much better mileage, but alas - I am still happy with around 23 mpg cruising at 80 mph with the X. It will only get better as the engine breaks in - only have about 1200 on it now. Man I am glad I got the clear bra - the front end was COVERED in bugs that I just cleaned off.

A little too late, but you should never use cruise control during the break-in period. It's best if you have a combination of hard acceleration and hard braking, and to just vary speeds.

Also, I'm fortunate that I leave for work at 5:00 am so traffic on LIE (new HOV lane is great) or Northern Blvd from Suffolk to Queens is non-existent, so great HWY mileage is countered by my local driving.

just because I used the cruise does not mean that I did not vary my speed. Maybe you could ask me next time instead of assuming something.

To me, that sounds very much like you had it at a constant 81mph the entire way back. My bad for assuming. Also, I was just trying to let you know, in case you didn't.
