Problem with AT Transmission?
Most mornings when I shift into reverse to back my '04 X out of garage, I hear a noise that sounds like the suspension "waking up." I've gotten so used to this that I don't even think twice about it.
This morning, however, was a different story. The noise was much more pronounced, so much so that I put the car into park and got out to see if my tranny was lying on the ground. After determining that everything was where it was supposed to be, I gave it another shot with no problems, except that I had to "touch" the gas to get the car to move (usually, the car begins moving on its own).
So, how serious does this sound, and has anyone else experienced the same thing?

Once, I heard a clunk going into reverse, then the AT light came on and it wa in "limp home" mode. It went away with a re-start. At the dealer 2 dsays later there was no code. It happened one other time and cleared immediately with a re-start, so I didn't bring it in. Neither event was after hard driving-only 25 mph about town for 5 minutes.
05 Auto here. 2700 miles (roughly). No X, but it shouldn't matter...
No problems. She shifts a little hard when revved hard in manual mode, but it feels more like a firm shift than a problem.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

I have heard this mystery noise as well.
I didn't think that it was the suspension, my thoughts were that it was the emergency brake settling, or the brake pedal making noise... not sure myself. It's definitely when I stop in reverse, and move to drive i hear this "spring uncoiling noise"... like letting the brake pedal go real quick and hearing it return to its normal position.
I could be completely off, but I'm not insane... there is a noise.

My girlfriends 05 Auto 2WD sedan makes a noise, generally about the time she gets to the end of the driveway (~150ft long, going forward). Sounds somewhat like a spring uncoiling or a gear spinning down. Kind of a creaking sound, but it seems to have some rotating sound to it as well, very mechanical.
I have the same dilemna. the mystery sound is actually there everytime I put the car in drive and start to accelerate. Just about 1-2 seconds after the car starts moving. It happens out of reverse and from a stand still.

I have the same sound on my 05 G35 5A with 5000 miles. It's only when the car is cold and it happens right under 2000rpm in 1st gear or drive. You could hear a clunk and then it goes away. I'm not sure what the ABS calibration noise is supposed to sound like but it doesn't sound right. Took it to the dealer and they said it was the ABS pump.
I have heard this sound too. I have an 05 sedan and every morning as I back out of the garage and shift to drive, as the car starts to move there is this "sound". I've heard it everyday for the last week. Now I am glad I am not the only one
. I only have 1050 miles on mine so I will ask the dealer when I take it for the first oil change.

the self check on the abs.... I hear that as well I back out of the garage and then as I am rolling down the driveway it happens... if you happen to step on the brakes at the same time it feels like the anti locks are kicking in...
