My 05 had a broken baffle inside the muffler. You only heard it under load when the dual stage muffler was using it's "second stage" or whatever. I never really heard it inside the car, but one night my wife took the car - i was still in the garage when she took off down the street (it's a fast street). She gave it some gas when she left and it sounded cool until about 3500 rpm - then it sounded like tin cans loose in the muffler. Dealer replaced the muffler and problem solved.
I'd suggest having a buddy drive the car with you outside of it. Sometime it's easier to spot the sound that way.

Ditto if it's an inside rattle/vibration (of course be in the car not outside) - I've had interior issues that I thought I isolated until I had my girlfriend drive while I observed.
It's amazing how much clarity you lose while driving. Positioning has a lot to do with it as well. Anyway, always get a second set of eyes and/or ears and if possible listen away from driver seat.

I just had a similar noise fixed! The G was making a nasty rattling noise at about 4000 rpm but only under load (it wouldn't do it so much if you just reved it - you had to be driving). It sounded like crap. I have put up with it since December when I had done some exhaust work. Yesterday, I took it back to the muffler shop. It was a loose grounding strap on the muffler!!! I couldn't believe that something so simple could make the engine sound that bad.

I have a rattle under load over 4k also. I tracked it down to the tranny or right above it. Its a metal on metal rattling sound. Its right above the rear section of the bell housing right under the shifter. Cant get to it though, but Ill let the dealer worry about it when I get my new motor.

I have rattle/buzz (under heavy load, lower gears) coming from the passenger side of the car near the front passenger seat. I think mine is coming from somewhere in the interior. My guess is it's something in the seat or in the central pillar probably related to the seat belt mechanism. Mine comes and goes. I noticed it again today.
