Does anyone find it odd that Nissan didn't give the same treatment to their other cars?

One I forgot to mention was the Maxima. It has a 'normal' exhaust note as compared to the 05.

I figured if they did it with the 05 G sedan, they would do it with the other 2 'sporty' sedans - the V6 Alti and the Max. To me, it sounds like they were overlooked.

Not that it bothers me.

Does the 05 X have the same exhaust tune as the regular sedan? (I would imagine it does - I've never heard or even seen one though...)

So............If I need to replace my exhaust in a few yrs--If I order the 2005 exhaust it should sound the same or very similar, right? I know there are some changes under hood (more hp) but it should be able to be installed and sound similar?

I wonder if the hangers are the same or if not whether they could be easily modified to fit.

for the original poster's question, not all the cars with the VQ35 sound the same. Only the G35, 350Z and FX have the nice tone you are talking about. You mentioned that the FX didnt have it, but it does. No other Nissan/infiniti has it - that would include the QX4, I35, Altima, maxima, Pathfinder(4.0), Quest, Xterra(4.0). They all sound like normal cars....whatever that means. Infiniti tones the exhaust and intake to sound like they do, and it is a great thing

At first I thought the exhaust sound was odd, but as time went by I grew to appreciate the muted quality and perceived it to have a certain sophistication over a loud growl. Bottom line I think its how the car moves more so than how it sounds.

No, Nissan tunes the exhaust to be the way it is. My curiousity is why they didn't bother to give at least a little of the 'flavor' to their other sporty sedans.

Heck - even the Altima SE-R sounds meek by comparison. That car is Nissan's hotrod sedan - why not give that car a voice?

Don't misunderstand - I'm glad the tone is different and that it isn't heard behind every VQ - it just made me wonder.

I bet they are very similar, and I bet you wouldn't have to replace the entire exhaust to get the same sound. I bet the added HP (questionable in the 5AT I drive) wouldn't make a difference in the voice of the car.

I'm not smart enough when it comes to exhausts to tell you where to start messing though.

I added the stillen airbox/intake to my '05 6mt sedan. The exhaust is stock.

What a great sounding combo. Subtle and smooth at idle. Wicked at Wot throttle......especially between 5000-7000 rpm!!!!!!

Intake and exhaust are two different things. The idle sound and the gurlge that rocks can't be had with an intake.

I live within a few blocks of a dealer and have heard alot of them go by. when i drive by the dealership i hear alot of 05s pulling out. I've noticed a distinct sound difference between my 05 and the ones driving out. anyone else notice this? the new 05s i hear dont' sound as deep... they sound more like the 04s.

true, but I have an '05 and I am saying that the '05 stock exhaust note combined with the stillen intake makes for some nice sounds at WOT.

I think the 2005 G's exhaust is not bad. I realized after the car warms up and you drive it for a long trip the exhaust note gets better. I find that when the car goes reverse, the exhaust gets a little more throaty. Unfortunately, I miss the holding into clutch and slowly releasing it and then revving the engine. The throaty sound of that when parking the car forward and reverse must sound really good. I missed parking manual cars like that. Love revving it while parking. Now it sounds mellow because with automatic it's quiet.

I wished our G has the dual exhaust like the coupe/FX. I think those sounds alot better. Why did we get left out on the dual exhaust? Maxima and Altima 3.5, FX, Murano have them. What's up?

Last but not least, I love the 350z's exhaust the most out of all the nissan/infiniti's.

I agree, the G sounds great. I have an 05 Nismo Frontier 4x4 and the first thing I said when test driving the G was "man I wish my truck sounded like this!".

Gibson makes a catback kit for my truck, but it sounds nothing at all like the G. I'm thinking of getting a single in/dual out muffler like the one on the G and see if I can duplicate the tone on my truck.

Anyway...the car we test drove had about 3k miles and sounded very throaty. The car we purchased was not as deep at first, but as the miles increase it seems to be getting louder. Our car was built in May 05.

My wife also loves the car...she has been driving Jeep Grand Cherokees for the past 6 yrs!

Absolutely love the 05 note ... very nice, unexpected improvement over the 04s imho. I'd love to eventually do the stillen intake/exhaust upgrades, but I'm a bit reluctant to mess with perfection at this point!
