IS350 vs G35

I just saw some reviews of the new Lexus IS350 2006 on Edmunds.
Looks very impressive; from 306 HP to a radar distance detector. They claim 0-60 in 5.6 sec. It has this complicated VDIM system which makes the care safer at the limit or when an accident may be developing. I guess the price with options may be higher than $40K. Anyhow lets see the response of Infiniti in 2007.

I've read several reviews were the critics were impressed with the overall quality, but said it's not a true drivers car (you feel disconnecterd from what the car is doing).

This has been discussed ad-nauseum in the 'other cars' forum.

Until someone actually gets their hands on one for a test drive and we get a look at equipment vs price, it's very hard to compare the two.

Anything at this point is speculation.

Imma put on my flame suit for this.

I love my G35 but damm the new IS looks sweet.

The 350 is supposed well over 300hp with AWD.. only bad thing is manual isnt offered on the 350 but only the 250.

The new IS is going to be a mini GS pretty much, if anyone has had a chance to see the new GS in person you will really see that its amazing.

I think that the IS mite be a lil sweeter then the G when it finally comes out

Lots of cars are sweeter than the G, for a price..

The new GS looks like a giant Tc to me.

To tell how much better (if it's actually better) the IS350 is, just look at how many used G35 are in the Lexis lot when it goes on sale. When I was shopping for the G there was at 3 or 4 TLs in the infinity lot along with bunch of bwms. I didn't see much G35 in the lexus lot. I have a feeling that will change.

I'm sure the IS350 will be nice, but given the silly price, it doesn't really seem to be a direct competitor to the G so much as an M35. Which is probably bigger.

I'd take a G 6 speed and call it a day. The IS250 is more in line with this and it's just no comparison (to me anyway) there. Nifty and new, sure, but 220hp vs nearly 300 for the G? No thanks.

I think Lexus has gone off the deep end with the pricing - if these prices that have been splattered everywhere are accurate.

For the $40k price range, I'd have to go with a Charger SRT8. I know the IS would be way more refined, more gadgety, better mpg, etc, etc, but the giggle factor for me would probably be higher with the SRT.

At the current price points of "similar class models", the G is a bargain. The prices of the new 3 series, IS350, etc. keep creeping up into "ridiculous" territory. So much for "entry level" luxury. Only the TL is directly price competitive any more.

Damn good point - Lexus isn't taking the G an TL on as serious competitors, leaving the 250 for that segment. Maybe it won't dominate it, but it'll still do well enough. The real bulls eye is the Bavarian stuff. I suppose the way to be taken seriously by that group of buyers is to be priced similarly - or worse in this case.

They actually may be on to something.

Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure that only the 250 is offered with AWD.
