Re: need advice for price

I live in Massachusetts. There are four Infiniti dealerships within 40 miles of my house. I offered $250 over invoice for a sedan with manual transmission at two dealerships -- an amount that was not taken seriously. I then called a third dealership yesterday to offer 2% (roughly $650) over invoice, but they wouldn't even entertain that offer on a demo with 700+ miles on it.

A lot of people on this board have mentioned paying $500 (or less!) over invoice. Is this really happening? I wonder whether it's the market I live in -- or the short supply of 6MTs. Can I really get a sedan with a manual transission at close to invoice price?

Any suggestions? Can anyone recommend a dealer within 300 miles of Boston with a history of selling these cars at a great price?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: need advice for price

I live in Los Angeles and could not find one single dealer that would budge on price on coupes....however I had a couple dealers that over the phone.....not even places I had visited yet....say they could sell me a sedan all day at 500 over invoice. So I think you could easily get it cheaper if that is their starting point. I bought the coupe.

You may want to see if your company or credit union has a fleet sales plan or if a friend of yours has that at their company because sometimes the fleet managers will come down quite a bit on cars that they have a lot of. You won't get the very best price, but if you are not the negotiating type you may get a much better price than you otherwise would

Re: need advice for price

Goto FreshAlloy - Grubbs Infiniti.

This dealership offers VPP pricing to anyone from Fresh Alloy. This means $500 over invoice without any haggling - I was shocked at how straightforward Danny was to deal with. BTW the VPP pricing does not apply to the Coupe but does apply tothe Sedan 6MT. Also they will ship to anywhere in the USA for $600 or less (free to Texas and surrounding states).

Two weeks ago I ordered a 2004 G35 Sedan 6MT in Diamond Graphite (new colour for '04) with Leather/Premium/NAV/Aero for almost $3000 below MSRP. Delivery is due end-Sept. The VPP pricing is still available even though the thread says it stops in June.

Lease prices are also exceptional - for example a current 2003.5 Sedan 6MT with Leather/Premium/NAV/Aero on 15k miles per year and 39 month lease with $0 down is around $500-$525 per month inc. taxes.

I am not affiliated to Grubbs or FreshAlloy in any way - just looking for more G35 info on the web and saw this thread.

BASE ACURA TLX NOW WANT A G35 AGAIN THOUGH
Re: need advice for price

Hey guys -take it from someone that used to sell ACURA's from 93-98! I bought my G35 in Nov '02. Unfortunately no other dealer in n.cal had the car I wanted with Navi. I agreed to pay MSRP only because I knew I was the first kid on the block with the sedan and navi! I was cheap on my '02 TL-S and didn't want to pay extra for NAVI but this time I said, eh what the hell why not. Anyways, pricing is based on supply and demand (econ 101). If you are looking for ex: a black/black navi sedan in a 6mt and the dealer shows maybe only 1 in the entire state of CA....there is NO WAY in hell they will go below MSRP! If they had for example 5 of the same exact model and color and 6mt on the lot and not yet sold, then yes the dealer can afford to let the car go for $500.00 over invoice or less. The only times a dealer will sell at "invoice" or "below invoice" is if the manufacturer "INFINITI" had a specail rebate! Usually if they sell a car at invoice, it means the factory will still have anywhere from $1,000.00 - $2,000.00 they pay to the dealer...Also, there are certain times of the "end of the year" when the factory will pay for "flooring cost"...."Flooring cost" includes, paying the bank for financing (some dealers borrow money from banks to get more inventory/other dealers can own all their cars outright), paying for gas, advertising costs, rent, salesman commission etc...I can go on and on about pricing..so if you want just IM me anytime - bobby629@aol.com. GOOD LUCK on your buying experience! =)

Re: need advice for price

Not true in this case. Initially I wanted a Desert Platinum 6MT sedan 2003.5 model (with leather/premium/NAV/aero). Grubbs Infiniti did an inventory search, then an incoming pipeline search, and then a statewide search for Texas and then searched all nearby states. In every case if they had found 1 model or 20 I would only have been charged only $500 over invoice because that is what VPP pricing means. As they couldn't find my combination anywhere they said I should do a custom order for a 2004 model if I could wait 2 months for delivery - still for $500 over invoice. Try to find ANY other dealer that will let you have a 2004 model for that price for a sedan 6MT.

Re: need advice for price

Come on people you're killing me, just buy your car at either Grubbs or Riverside like I did. I'll take a freaking picture of my invoice and post it here. Then either ship it or fly down there and drive it back. Isn't $3k in savings worth a 10 hour drive???

Trust me, people are dealing on the 6MT sedan. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: need advice for price

invoice was like $32200 and I added some stuff like splash guards, etc... so my final was $32900 including the $500 over invoice, my MSRP was officially around $35700. So I saved around $2800 by flying down to Riverside.

Question is, is it worth it to you? Heck, why don't you buy it at Grubbs or Riverside, give me $1000 and I'll ship it over to you and you'll still save $1800.

Re: need advice for price

Hey..., nice deal
you said that your invoice was around $32k right, where did you get this number ? did you just ask the dealer or you researched on the net ? Because I know the invoice price for your car, according to www.edmunds.com, definitely is not more than $32k. Currently, my nearest dealer offered me $37.5 (out-the-door) 6mt sedan full option, less winter package. If the invoice price on edmunds.com is accurate, then I assume $37.5 is 2500 over invoice right ? I just emailed Grubbs and Riverside, I hope they will offer me a good deal ;p

Re: need advice for price

I checked Edmunds and my package ended up around $32k. They don't have every little option listed so it was off by a few bills. I also use the $3k markup rule. So I just knocked off $3k from my MSRP to guesstimate my invoice also. Also checked with two other dealers besides Riverside.

That's sounds about right. I'm assuming you're getting the ground kit & aero to get a $2k higher MSRP than me.

Either Riverside or Grubbs should give you a decent offer. I would not pay $37.5, that's for sure.

Re: need advice for price

The simple steps for buying a car:
1) Find Invoice and MSRP for every option (autobytel.com has all the options for the G, if you can't find one, call two dealerships and ask)
2) check to make sure their MSRP numbers match yours. This gets them to agree your #'s are correct and your source is accurate- so when you whip out your invoice #'s from the same source you've got an upper-hand.
3) Write this on a piece of paper-

INVOICE $__________
-Dealer discount $________
-Manufacturer Discount $__________
+Your profit $__________
=TOTAL $_____________

Simple. They fill in the first three, and you negotiate for the "Your profit" figure. Dealers are 83% more likely to be 'dowardly compatible' on price if you do this, according to a 1999 study at Harvard business school. Every car I've gotten has been this way... for this car, the dealer filled in "$3,000" for "your profit" I then crossed it out and wrote "$100". He wrote "$2,500", I crossed it out and wrote "$50". He got the idea. Also make sure you say "Any etchings, asvertizing fees, docking fees, etc. are included in the TOTAL figure. Nothing but tax may be added." Write that, have them sign it, you sign it. The end.
