I will get together with one of the members from AZNissans.org, and he will take some sound clips this weekend such as cruising, accelerating, idle..etc....and will post them asap.

I used to work at a muffler shop for 10 yrs and the shield above the muffler is to protect the trunk and general under body for excessive heat. Depending how much room you have between the aftermarket muffler and the floor determines if you still need the shield, but I would say that if you have 2" or more you should be fine otherwise you might want to reinstall the shield. Just my $.02

Great, thanks for the heads-up! The new muffler is seriously about 1/3 the size of the OEM muffler. When he pulled out the OEM muffler, I almost lost it...that thing is enormous (height-wise).....I couldn't believe it. There's about three or four inches to where the heat-shield was, if not more, so good, I am glad we got rid of that contraption.

I agree. The HKS is actually smaller than the OEM. Lots of room. I would put it back on bro.

Wait. You just confused me. MrBig said that if there is more than 2" of room, I'm good with leaving it off (due to HKStwin being smaller), but you said to put it back on because its smaller. (Sorry Chico, maybe I'm misunderstanding it).

Sounds like you have a ton of room. Don't worry about it.

Yeah, we'll do some runs inside and outside of the car, at various speeds and gears so you guys can hear/see them all (it will be in video format).

Where did you get the mid pipe and HKS muffler and how much, mynismo.com has the muffler for $395 and they have a HI'FLOW Sedan Mid pipe for like $295... Anyone know if this is better than the Coupe's mid pipe??

Guys - just a thought if you want to replace the midpipe. Find someone with a Z that has redone his/her exhaust. We got a Z midpipe from a friend for $25 and paid Midas around $90 for the install including the small extension piece to make it fit. The quote we were given for a new coupe midpipe was $255 plus shipping not including install. Just my .02 and yes it makes a big difference. The hubby posted about this earlier if you do a search it should come up but be warned - he is long winded sometimes.

Oh and I almost forgot - Congrats Alex!!!

No, maybe I didn't explain that well. I got an HKS-replica from OBX for $39 bucks I think. Just a universal muffler, and I had Midas extend the factory rear section muffler (they cut off the OEM muffler and part of the pipe) so I can have it positioned perfectly.

I thought it looked different. It will be interesting to hear your clips.

The coupe mid pipe should be $235 and $395 for the HKS. You can probably buy a used one for $75.
