Well, exhaust is finally done!

Sedan owners, if you do not have a coupe mid-pipe, run, don't walk to your....oh wait. No. Let me back up. I have an 05 sedan a/t, and just got a coupe mid-pipe put on, and let me tell you, the ***-dyno is sooooooooo happy. On top of that, I put on an HKS-twin style muffler on it, and both the sound, throttle response, and the overall "feel" of acceleration increase is present. I am extremely satisfied, and Midas charged 130 bucks for install of both (its 114 degrees in Phoenix, and I don't have a welder nor a desire to do anything to my car). Overall, ten thumbs up on the mod! So, if you got a sedan, go hunt down your nearest fellow coupe board-member with a factory or any other aftermarket mid-pipe on their coupe and steal....err...buy it from them. Absolutely great, I am beyond satisfied.

Now if 350zForums can only get me my Y-pipe and cat-delete pipes, that would be great.

Congrats on the new addition. Pics of the new twins?

Understood about the heat! I'd pay to have it done in that heat too.

Good stuff...congrats. I have the same set up and just ordered the PRO-1 Y-pipe to complete the job...well kinda....maybe CATS are next.

Here is a pic of my HKS on the '05. BTW, did yours come out flush to the bumper line? and what did they weld?

I had them set the muffler a bit out (so it matches the OEM look)... I'm running to the garage to take some pics now for you all.

That didn't have to be taken off. I believe that is the heat shield.

Chico, any issues with mounting your HKS on an '05?

There were three.

1. Two hangers on the muffler had to be modified to fit into the new '05 brackets. Simple cut and weld. I didn't want to have the "HANGING" look, so they fit it a couple of times until I was happy.
2. The muffler fell short of the bumper line about 2 inches. It looked like the OEM muffler of the '03 - '04. So my shop extended the coupe midpipe by 2" and it looks perfet now.
3. There is a bracket between the driveshaft and the midpipe which is intended to hold the driveshaft in case it falls off or something, which had to be bent upwards to prevent the midpipe from hitting it when going over bumps.

Overall, it is a simple job and I'm very happy. I like the sound, the slight performance gain, and the looks.

Very nice job. I like the look, and can see that I would have to have a shop extend the tube so that the pipes stuck out more too, because the stock exhaust tips on my '03.5 are pretty much hidden from view.

How is the exhaust note & tonal quality? Is it too obnoxious and loud? Is it throaty and rich? I had a HKS single oval cat-back system on my '98 BMW M3 a few years ago and it sounded great to me.

Yes, they extended the pipe about an inch so the bend would fit right (so they don't crimp it). The tone is rich (full sounding) without being overbearing. It has a nice tone to it, it doesn't get obnoxious, and so far, I cruised at about 70 tonight, with no drone.

Thank you. I appreciate the compliments. I am truly enjoying the car now, and don't think I could be happier.
