I value my homes much more than any of my cars. So, where is the comparison, which you are attempting to make?

The comparison is that a car is often the second most expensive thing people own (for some the most expensive) and that they might want to apply the same criteria as far as allowing strangers to have complete possession of it, albeit for a short time, as they would to their home. Is that simple enough for you to understand? And the fact that nobody has damaged your car is really irrelevant to whether others wish to take the risk of having their car valet parked.

Your deduction skills are as sharp as a knife. I just simply have more important issues to ponder than whether or not a valet will have complete possession of my car, as you say. However, your point is quite well taken.

History:

2005 6MT

200 Miles - 1st Valet forgot to take his pen out of his pocket and left me a nice *** signature on my leather interior. Eagle1 Leather Cleaner took most of the ink out, but the scratches from the pen are still there.

400 Miles - 2nd Valet didn't know how to drive a stick. My buddies in the car in front of me warned me. I walked back to my car (I had left it with the valet) to notice that another valet is leaning into the car trying to teach this joker how to drive my car. Needless to say, I put a stop to that. The other valet ended up parking it, but I was neverous the whole time.

900 Miles - 3rd Valet couldn't find reverse (made me wonder how many times some valet put my car in 6th, look back, and inched forward or stalled, or worse, beat up the gears trying to find reverse.

Truth is sometimes you have to valet, but I haven't had good luck with the G.

I have been a valet for almost a year now. I don't know how it is at some of these valet places you are talking about...but we have a very strict dress code (Must always wear uniform with shirts tucked in, no visible piercings/tatoos, cleanly shaven). Our hiring requirements are 19 years old and must know how to drive stick (and they do check everyone's driving record).

It may not go for all valets, but I have respect for everyone's car... especially Gs. I always make sure to park the Gs as close as possible.

Just a tip...don't be a ***** to the valet guy and tip at least $2-3.

yeah

gimme a break, it's not like the g35 is a rare exotic. If it's a nice restaurant in Chicago, I'm sure there will be more enticing cars for the valets to joy ride.

I never valet. I just don't like to increase the already shi**y odds of something happening to any of my vehicles when they leave the safety of their garages.

Thanks for the help everyone, but I think I will feel safer knowing my G is parked safely in the garage and take the wife's SUV.

Never, NEVER, EVER Valet your 6MT

I went to a charity function at a small airport used for private jets. Valet only the guy told me. I laughed out loud, with only 200 miles on my G he must be kidding.

Long story, short. My wife and I drove 1/2 mile away (her in heels), walked all the way to the event and back, took 25 mins in the cold but so what. I didnt' drop 30K + to let some high-school drop out trash my ride just for fun.

just my humble .02 worth

Thumbs down No Way

both my oldest daughter's fiances were former valet parking attendants at luxury resorts. their advice to me was DO NOT valet park any type of car much less a "hot" car. i broke that rule one time and paid with damage that the restaurant would not own up to because they put a disclaimer on the back of the claim ticket that says once you leave the lot they are not responsible. that leaves you with the alternative of carefully examining your car in the dark after a wonderful evening of food and spirits. my solution is much simpler.....NO VALET PARKING.

My friend's dad owns a valet and he helps out a lot, and he treats the cars with all the respect in the world. I don't think its fair to say all valets are shady. I think your best bet is to just tip the guy a couple makes, tell em to take good care of it, and remember what mileage you had on your car before you give it to them.
