What's the deal with the Infiniti web site?

They keep messing with the "build and locate" function on the G Sedan. It was there, then it was gone for a long time, it was back last week, now it is gone again. What is up with that??

[edit] OK, never mind--it still has the function if you click on "build" but they just don't call it "build and locate" on the front page, unlike with the coupe. I guess it will be gone again soon.

I noticed the same thing!

funny, several months back the "build and locate" button on the G35 was still there but it quit taking you to the "locate" part of the exercise.

now the button on the G35 Sedan menu just says "build". last night i was looking at the FX for my wife and noticed the "build and locate" button said both but i didn't take it to the point of seeing if locate would actually work.

if the locate button does work for other infiniti models, the big question. why doesn't it work for the G35 sedan?? poor inventory control? they sell faster than they can update the web sites? i've got questions, who's got answers

If I had to guess, I'd say Infiniti doesn't want potential buyers to know that the G Sedan is overflowing most dealerships. Hard for a salesperson to pitch the old "I've only got a couple left" line when they're stacked on top of each other at an offsite warehouse.

According to them, there are 578 G Sedans at 5 different dealerships within 25 miles of my zipcode of 90066 - West Los Angeles!

108 - Santa Monica
165 - Miller
130 - Glendale
81 - South Bay
94 - Cerritos

I personally love the locate feature. I think it gives consumers a real advantage to know that the dealer has in stock.

Out of curiosity, I thought I'd check the inventory again at my local dealerships.

Here is where is stood on Monday, August 8 vs. Monday, August 1:

89 - Santa Monica (-19)
146 - Miller (-19)
116 - Glendale (-14)
74 - South Bay (-7)
87 - Cerritos (-7)

At this rate, they'll be around well into the '06 selling season.

When I was shopping last month and earlier, I noticed the same thing. They still called the function "Build and Locate" but it did not always give you the option to locate. It was nice to quickly find out if a local dealer had the exact car I wanted instead of visiting each dealer website. I have no idea why they would suspend this function.

Which would, of course, mean that the dealers HATE that feature. Maybe infiniti and the dealer network have been in a tug-of-war regarding this issue? Who knows...

Function's gone again--both for sedans and coupes, this time. This is kinda amusing.
