Also, what's the exchange rate?... I don’t know if the Canadian post was truly equivalent or what it would cost in "US dollars"... I would gladly pay higher in Canada considering the cheaper property (compared to OC in So Cal) and as you said "free medical"...

I love Toronto! If their summer weather were year round I'd move there!

If you compare our prices to England or other areas that are unbelievably high (last I heard over $7 US dollars quite a while back, probably higher now) - we're not doing too badly, but like everything it's all relative.

ABC News just had a piece that said there is talk of $5 per gallon potentially in the near future... I don't know if they meant national average or local (So Cal) - TV is on in the background I wasn't paying too close attention.

Every time gas price go up I keep kicking myself in the @ss because about 10 years ago I had a conversation with colleges regarding the outrageous $30-sh price per barrel! D@mnit! I was ridiculing people for investing that high! I'm pissed!!!!! I could have made a killing! Mon was $70, does anyone know what it ios today? I haven't checked.

Once again the media has caused a frenzy. The only shortage is the people freaking out and clearing out the gas stations.

http://www.colpipe.com/press_release/pr_73.asp

That is the largest pipeline in the southeast, which will be up to 30% by the end of the week and then 50% soon enough. The gouge laws have kicked in here in Ga, hopefully the gas stations charging 4.99 / gal will get the $5000 citation. The gas stations and media are in cahoots, causing widespread panic. Unfortuantely I think gas prices are stuck above 3 now, since why should they lower them they are making a kill. One time I think maybe the gov't should step in a regulate this a bit, since a year ago it was a 1.70. How does it nearly double in a year, and gas is cheap in FL where there is a statewide gas tax?? Makes me want to cry lol.

Unhappy New York gas prices

That is indeed true in Atlanta. I saw $3.17 per gal. premium 93 octane Hess gas yesterday in Yonkers. Across the street Exxon was selling their premium for $3.66 per gallon. In New York there are 3 grades: 87, 89, 93 octane.

I live in Hamden, Connecticut and work in New Haven. On my way into work today I drive by about 5 different gas stations the avg. prices were around...
87 = 3.15
89 = 3.25
93 = 3.44

I feel that these gasoline stations and oil companies are price goughing the crap out of us and it needs to stop. Not every body can offer a 50 dollar fill up and soon this country will be in a recession.

I got a call from my Dad who lives in Atlanta saying that Gas had gone through the roof there and that they were running out. So I went to the gas station to see how it was here in Raleigh NC. It was just as bad here. There were lines of about 4 to 5 cars deep at 8:00 PM last night. Premium was $3.19 a gallon. That is up about $.40 cents since yesterday morning. Everyone was filling up their lawn mower gas tanks as well as both of their cars. The gas stations are definitely price gauging but we don’t want to be stuck without gas so we will pay it. The government needs to step in and do something about this and they need the military to step in and take back New Orleans. To bad our military is off fighting a war in a different country!

I'd like to actually see why its 3.19 / gal as opposed to 2.79 that morning. Where did the additional 40 cents / gal come from, was there more refining needed, did something else happen? The breakdown from crude oil (70 / barrell) to the pump needs to be broken down. How much profit is really being made by the gas companies? My thoughts on the matter and a friend suggested it, is to set up a giant think tank like the 3 mile island project and come up with alternatives. Make cars that run on garbage or somehow convert garbage into fuel. This would remove our dependency on foreign oil. Mpgxsvcd yea agree with you there, its chaos there. Saw some stuff on the news, its marshall law and looks like a scene out of Escape from NY / LA, minus Kurt Russell.

The problem with oil in general is that it works on futures.. if there's panic.. the futures market reflects it. I agree that 6 dollars a gallon is completely uncalled for..but the reality is we are stuck and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it.

Side Note:I reached 1000 posts with this.. yay!

Fuel Alternatives

I paid 2.99/Gal regular, fill up was $50. sucks.

Our dependancy on foreign oil is rediculous. That in itself is a threat to national security. Already people are killing for gasoline. I'm not blaming Bush or any president, however messing with oil suppliers is like putting your hand in a boiling pot.

Eventually we're going to have to move to an alternative fuel. I know there's been a lot of talk about hydrogen and what/not but what about conversion kits? Will there be a government subsidy to pay for this? Even if it were a free conversion, it will take time to make stations compliant. What's to stop people from filling thier own tanks with home brew hydrogen? and blowing up thier garages when they screw up?

I don't see anything happening for another 10 years. We're stuck for now.

Now, $6.00 a gallon is definitely gouging, I don't mind paying more in a crisis like this, but that figure is pure greed coming through, I see the Governor of Georgia is going to go after any "gouger's".
