Please look over these service records and advise! Thanks!

I may be buying a 2003.5 G35 Sedan from an Infiniti dealership with 30k miles on it. It has everything except navigation. It has not had its 30k mile service.

Anyways, I obtained the service records for the car. The regular maintenance was performed on schedule, however a few problems on the report caught my eye :

1) 8/08/03 : 586 miles : "Customer states that interior lights are Inop. Please advise. Tech found BCM failure. Replaced BCM, programmed all remotes and keys as needed."

2) 8/08/03 : 586 miles: "G35 Brake Switch ITB03-XX. Factory campaign completed."

3) 12/29/04 : 7,837 miles : "Customer states right side outer mirror doesn't operate. Remove right door panel. Fault trace open circuit at connector repaired. Retest OK."

4) 5/27/04: 14,336 miles : "Diagnosis-Brakes. Tech found brake squealing when applied. Tech found ITB#B03-006. Tech replaced rear brake pads per ITBB03-006. "

5) 5/27/04: 14,336 miles : "Customer states that when engine is warm after shutting off the vehicle has to sit for about 4-5 minutes to be restarted. Tech found crank position sensor not responding. Tech replaced crank position sensor."

6) 4/14/05: 28,308 miles: "Customer states the brakes make noise. Tech found front brake pads worn and making noise. Tech replaced the brake pads and re-surfaced the rotors"

- Could you all offer any comments regarding the above? Does this look "normal" ? Thanks so much in advance!

I have 11,450 miles to be exact and I have a lot more than that. On my last Nissan, I kept all my records and not exaggerating, the stack is about a half inch thick when pressed down.

Those are all technical service bulletin items except items #1 and #3. Refer to this website for future reference: http://www.infinitihelp.com/Infiniti...G35/2003/1.htm

This is a model with known premature brake wear and failure, at least in some cars. So much so that Infiniti provided replacement or repair up to 3yrs/36K mi. You will be buying one that has had its brakes resurfaced already and will soon be out of warranty for the brakes. Some people have had to have frequent replacement. I personally wouldn't do it if I could find a good deal on an '05.

Which Nissan model? I have an 03 Altima SE with 55,000 miles and zero problems.

Hmm, thanks for your comments. Considering the brake probs, what would you say would be a good price for this car? Everything externally (no scratches, dings) is in good shape and the interior is good as well, but with some signs of use. The price is 24k.

Much too high for a 2003.5 sedan. I would have to say a more reasonable price would be $20,000.

20k? wow..That sounds a bit low. I was thinking in the range of 22k. This has all options except navigation and 2 years / 30k left on the warranty. Other price suggestions?

At 24k, I'd prob just buy a new one.

As far as the problems, I would say those are "normal" and I would not be concerned.

I would say 22k is a good deal, the car only has 30K miles on it. 24K is a bit high, for one it is a 2+ year old car, and you can buy a new one for 5-6K more. I would not pay over 22K, that seems to be the going rate for an 03 on Autotrader with most options and that mileage, or you can easily find another one for that....

You are better off buying a base 05. I paid $29K for my new 03.5 back in early 2003. Now way I would pay $24k for a used one today!!!!

Aren't you glad he got those issues fixed? I would see that as a plus.
Some owners just let it all go, and don't bother

I just paid $20k

I just paid $20k a couple weeks ago for an 2003.5 with 50,000 miles. Loaded with every option except full size spare and Nav. Caribbean Blue with graphite interior. New tires. In service date of 1/03. All maintenance records. Dealer serviced religiously every 7500 miles.

Thanks for all the replies.

I put in an offer of 22k, but the salesman told me it was sold earlier that day. (For some reason, I don't believe that).

Anyways, it was a Caribbean Blue. I LOVE that color. Shame Infiniti decided not to put them on the 2005 models. I think we could get by with one less silver color :-)

It was a 2002 2.5S 5 speed (49,000 miles as of january when I traded it in). Some of the problems were:
Engine Replaced
Tranny Replaced Twice
Broken motor mount (nissan broke it)
Broken temperature control (nationwide backorder 3 months without temperature control, I traded the car in with it broken still)
Shift boot seperated 4 times from surrounding (poor design)

the list goes on and on. Yes I know some people had no problems with their altima, but it was about a 50/50 thing with those cars, either you had a good one or a bad one, unfortunatley mine sucked.
