05 Sedan Holy Crap
I just dropped off my 04 g35 coupe for 15k service and got an 05 sedan as a loaner...all I have to say is DAMN...for some reason this 05 sedan with 8k miles on the clock feels way faster then my Coupe...I REALLY like the sedan it feels more comfortable too...maybe its because I have a Base cloth Coupe but right now the sedan is blowing me away
...has anyone ever traded a Coupe for a Sedan? And are the prices of the Sedan considerably cheaper then the coupe?

Oh boy... here we go. DaveB... shake your butt over here and tell Daniel how the '05 couldn't possibly feel faster than the 03/04 since the 03/04 were "underrated". ha ha
Daniel, I haven't had a chance to drive the coupe, but back in march I test drove new 04 and 05 sedans back to back before making the decision to go with the 05. The 05 clearly felt stronger to me too. Of course that is not evidence it is but I was surprised. Whether or not the 05 has a 20hp gain or not it sure seems as though the torque curve was changed. This was all long before I read the controversy that consumes threads regarding the under/overrated HP numbers between the different years.
Anyhoo.. Just wanted to share a similar experience to yours.

two of my friends have G35's an 03 and an 04 and I blow them out everytime with my 05 sedan. A kid down the block has an 04 5speed auto coupe and he tries to keep up with me on the highway.
I dunno about the whole 03/04 vs 05 thing, but I will say that having owned a coupe and sedan I prefer the sedan. Better handling, similar (if not the same) power, and overall better drive quality. Just imo, of course.

My last loaner was a white '05 5AT (base suspension, premium package, no nav). It felt quicker off the line than my '04 6MT but only because it was an automatic. Once underway, it didn't seem to pull as hard as my 6MT.
Don't feel alone.
Last night we just got our 2005 G35 Sedan, but originally we
were going to get a 2005 G35 Coupe.
We test drove the coupe and liked it, but then for ****'s and Giggles we
took out a 2005 G35 Sedan.
The VERY first thing I told the sales guy was, "wow this sedan feels faster than the coupe."
He said it should because they are the same power now.
I thought the first sedan might be a ringer and just running fast, so we
drove ANOTHER sedan, and again, it felt as fast as the other sedan and
still a bit faster than the coupe.
My theory:
I noticed for 2003-2004 G35's the list weight of the Coupe is like 100 or so pounds
more than the sedan.
But for 2005 Infiniti "raised" the list curb weight of the sedan up by 70 pounds
making it very close to the weight of the coupe.
So now with the new/increased power rating of the 2005 sedan (matching the coupe) they hypothetically should be the same.
BUT, I think Infiniti just increased the list/curb weight of the 2005 Sedan to be closer
to the weight of the Coupe, but in reality, it's still the same weight of the 2003-2004 sedan (or 100 or so pounds less than the coupe).
So with the same 280 hp and 270 torque along with the same transmission but in REALITY the sedan is 100+ pounds lighter, the sedan is a bit faster.
Plus, if I'm not mistaken the sedan is a touch more aerodynamic than the coupe, even without the aero package.
I know you shouldn't be able to feel the performance difference of just 100 or so pounds, but I surely did in the case of the 2005 Coupe and Sedan.
Oh, and as you said, the sedan seemed more comfortable and DEFINITELY was more roomy.

Structurally the coupe is heavier.
Point. Last night a friend with an '05 6mt coupe and myself with my '04 6mt sedan went at it from 4th (at an undisclosed spot). He had barely some pull until 6th, at 130 my sedan began to pull forward, at 150 if we had not let off it would have been quite clear. So, in one case, the new motors appear to have their 18 more ponies in mid range.
I also had a loaner sedan from dealer recently and it felt like it was quite a bit faster than mine. Noticeably.

As someone said, it's the structural brace with the coupe.
Even for the 2005 model the coupe with auto is listed as
being 18 pounds heavier (probably seats/wheels).
But in prior to 2005 model cars, the coupe was listed as being like 100 pounds
more in weight.
As I stated, I have a feeling the coupe STILL is about 100 pounds more than
the sedan. I think Infiniti upped the "listed" weight of the sedan to be
closer to the coupe now, JUST because they gave the sedan equal power, so
this way people wouldn't lean more to buying the sedan if they were interested in getting the better power to weight ratio.
What's REALLY odd, is that for BOTH the sedan and coupe the MANUAL
tranny cars are HEAVIER than the auto cars.
Usually autos are heavier than manuals!!
Go figure.
All I know is, when I drove the coupe back to back with 2 different sedans, the sedans FELT a bit quicker.
The true test is at the dragstrip and it seems neither are definitely faster than the other. The fastest coupe time stock was 13.9x and so was the sedan. I have had numerous sedan loaners and what I could definitely say was that the sedans have always felt more loosely sprung than the coupes. This feeling was prevalent during hard acceleration as I would be thrust immediately into the seat by the initial surge. The coupes suspension is definitely tighter so that initial surge into the seats wasn't felt as much. I gave that loaner a workout
I think the power just isn't that different from one another...however, the coupe handles leagues better imo (stock at least). The pilot sports really help in aggressive cornering and the sedan was a bit too soft to my liking.
