Newbie to get a G35
Newbie to get a G35
Hi there.
I plan to purchase a *used 2003 G35 sedan w/ 30K. It was a leased vehicle so that is always good to hear.
What I like to know is if there are any bad things/flaw with this year model?
Oh yea, coming from a 3rd gen Acura TL.
Will I see a differance in performance/ comfort
?
Thanks all

There are opinions upon opinions on the subject. Search for TL in the forums and you should get a nice sampling. Do the same on the TL forums and if you can sift the wheat from the chaff then you should come away from your research much enlightened.

A very good friend of mine has a 2002 TL-S. Stock, he lags the G. With his mods, we're probably pretty even, but haven't gone side-by-side as I'm not a dumb-as$ street racer.
I prefer the interior of the G over the TL, but mainly because the G is mine, it's newer, and it has more bells and whistles.
The interior on his TL is no slouch - very sharp.
If your TL was stock, then depending on the set-up on your G the ride will probably be a bit firmer. My friend has his car lowered with springs/shocks, so the ride is a bit firmer than my stock non-sport, G.
You'll like the power in the G, and the handling is much better. It's a different dynamic - but I have more time behind the wheel of my 05 than I do the previous model years. Also - model years prior to 05 were criticized (and still are in these forums almost daily LOL) for their 'cheap' interior. I didn't like the interior of the 03/04 models. Whether you like the difference will depend on your perspective.
No matter what - enjoy the new G, and welcome here.

No probs. I have a lot of respect for the TL, even though it had a few tranny problems in it's pedigree. The G had brake problems in previous model years, but it looks like those were worked out for 05. When you take delivery, make sure your car has a good set of pads and fresh rotors.Another bone of contention is the manual drive train. Lots of niggles about notchy shifters, pre-mature clutch failure, etc. Overall though, the car is very solid and uber-reliable if you dirve it like a normal person.
Also - many here complain of rattles and interior noise. I came out of a '98 Maxima so I have no gripes so far (only about 4500 miles). I can say this - the TL's interior fit and finish (3rd gen or otherwise) is on par or better than that in the G, 03, 04 or 05.
My friend has a CAI, headers, and full exhaust on his 2002. I would imagine that we would be pretty close going head to head as I am completely stock and we are both 5AT. In the end I think I would get him - especially if we went from a roll at 35 or so. The VQ is a torquey motor for a V6.
Gas mileage is this car's downfall. I drive mine easy and average around 21 - 23 MPG in a 60/40 city/highway mix. Not bad. The occasional blast to redline included. Driving hard daily (which is very easy and very enjoyable) will put the MPG is the crapper. hehe..
If you have any specifics, you're in the right place. Everyone here (except djinferno) loves the G and will defend her to the death. LOL.
I'll tell you this 4000-7000 RPM in this car is a hoot.

Gee, thanks again. That person "djinferno" posted his long butt review out at Acura forum.
Also the G35 I plan to get is the 03 model. So will that model have brake / rotor issues or will infinity fix it?

Well guys. I should be taking delivery of mine tomorro (Saturday).
I asked what all has been done on it and it had new rear brakes put on. Also the miles on it is 45K. It was a misprint, but its all still good.
So nothing else to look out for then? Thank you all 4 your time.
--Also I, today went for the heck of it and test drove an MB C240, V6 auto. Boy what a POS. I was glad to park it, give back the keys and take off in my Acura TL. TL is so much more of a better car.
I just hope that the G35 is as good as others say about it.
I used to be a previous owner of both 1998 Maxima GXE and 1999 SE (5-spd) which were both great cars. So I believe the G35 is the next step up and hope to have a thrill ride with this Pony. Cheers.
