Coping with tinting laws

Hi all!

Just got a new IP x this week. Love it, but I want to do some tinting. Tinting laws in my province don't allow any non-factory tint on the front sides, but back sides and rear are unrestricted. If I only tint the back sides and rear, will it look okay? Anyone have some pics as examples.

BTW - This is my first day on this great forum. I really wrestled with the choice between black and IP, so I found the various black v. white threads interesting/amusing. People seem to be pretty passionate one way or the other.

No pics for you, but I can tell you it will look odd if you go dark only on the rears. If you have a light tint on the rear only, it may look okay.

Recommendation: One option is to go relatively dark in the back (5% or 13%) and do 50% in the front. It isn't likely to be noticed by law enforcement but won't look too odd.

I live in cali and tint laws for the front are 70%... needless to say ive had 20% on my car for the past 2 months and havent had any problems yet. if i were you i would go with a 20% in the rear and a 35% in the front. the law wont be on your a$$ and the difference in the tint wont be too much.

I don't think it would look bad if you tint only the rear, just don't go too dark and it will be fine. I recommend 35%.

Thanks for the replies. I've decided to cancel the appointment I had for tomorrow in order to more fully consider my options.

does anyone have any pics or opinions on 50/20. I was originally considering 50/35, but after reading some threads it sounds like 35 is too light?

i'm in california as well.

If you want to be conservative do....5% on back trunk window....then do 20% on the back rear passenger side windows....then do 35% on front side windows...You will achieve a very subtle tint by doing this and won't get in any trouble.

If you want to go real dark do 5% everywhere.

I disagree. 35% is NOT too light. I love it. DO NOT go 5%, that's way too dark. I used to have 5% on my old car and I couldn't see anything at night.

well, i'm not going any darker than 20, if i even do that. My dilemna is more what looks best with having 50% in the front.

Medium all the way around. I believe medium is 35%.

I have 35 front and 15 rear. Night time is pretty dark looking thru the back. But in the day time, it is perfect. If the cops are pretty tight on tint, I recommend you to do 50 front and 35 back. It'll blend in pretty well.

I have 20 all around and is nice here in FL (although front limit is 30). My wife's SUV has 30 in front and I think 20 in back (factory natural tint). 30 in front was not dark enough so I went with 20 all around.

Since you mentioned that NO tint is allowed in the front, even a 50 will be noticeable compared to a NO tint glass, so watch out. I would say around 20-35 all around the back. 5 is limo so will be pitch dark ... not recommended, unless you really want it.

you can go to the tint place and see the demo tint.

I live in the bay area (california) and had my G tinted 20% in back and 35% on the front and rear sides. Yesterday a ******** CHP officer decided to pull me over for GUESS WHAT....my front tinted windows! Trust me when I say that %35 will cause them to pull you over. He used a device that told me it was actually %31 so the G35 must have some factory tint that added to the darkness. I got a fix it ticket and had to remove it from the front. The good news is that it doesn't look bad with the two fronts non-tinted. I wouldn't use more than %50 in the bay area!

5% tint all the way around, and keep your windows down while the car is moving.
