If the G35 had a 3.8 litre V6 and it had 320 HP/290 LB*FT with cylinder deactivation that would allow it to get 31 MPG on the Highway and 24 in the City would it beat the BMW? What if it had all of the above and they changed the interior to look as good as the Acura TL, would it win then? Now the big question is would you still buy the G35 if it had all of the above features but it cost $42K when properly equipped? Would you rather have the above specs or the extra $8K - $10K?

Performance wise, the G35 already beats the BMW. The only exception is when the G35 is wearing crappy tires. The interior could be better but the 330i interior is not perfect either. Car mags like the BMW because it does everything really well and has a lot of high tech stuff to talk about. What I don't get, is that they still complain about all that high tech stuff (idrive, active steering, etc) and it's all really expensive. The fancy new motor has a lot of technology and fancy metals but it still only makes 255hp. I would expect more if I was paying $42k.

I agree that if the G35 had a propeller logo then it would be considered the greatest car ever by ALL car magazines. I also think that if the 330i had an Infiniti badge on it then it would be ridiculed for bad quality, a poor interior, poor performance, and lack of room by the car magazines and probably us also! However, I don’t agree that the M45 fits any of the things that I listed. It has a V8, much worse gas mileage, and it doesn’t cost $42K. The point was that Infiniti might be able to incorporate these features in the next G35 but it will probably push the cost much higher. Would you still be willing to buy a $42K G35? Jasperg35 and I definitely would not pay $42K for a G35 because it is just out of our budget. Maybe you all see it differently? I bet Infiniti is paying or has paid a pretty hefty sum just for the research to find the answer to the question! Little do they know that they just have to look here!
One thing really gets me about all of BMW so called technology breakthroughs. Why do you have to take the smart key out of your pocket and put it in the dash? That completely defeats all benefit of the smart key! You should never have to take it out of your pocket like in the G35 and IS350. I really don’t care if it has a red push button or not. The point is ease of use not aesthetics!

I'm over the 3-series vs G sedan debate, personally. They are just two great, although different cars. One costs more, and one is a little rougher around the edges. Maybe the Gs performance with 3 series handling and gas mileage, the quiet cabin of the new Lexus with the interior of an Audi? Oh yeah, and make sure it doesn't cost more than $27.5
I'm more curious about the new Lexus IS than the 3 series
