LSD in 2003 6MT?

I always wondered if my 2003 6MT came with LSD. So I tested it-switched traction control off and did "agressive" launch on gravel road. I left 2 nice tracks behind-both of rear wheels were spinning, so I assume I have LSD-the real viscous one, not just "braking the spinning wheel" one.
It is canadian model.
Were my test and assumptions correct?

I hope so. I do not have specs for 03, I know for sure that 05 did.

6MT Sedans for USA production in 2003 did not have VLSD - per Infiniti sales brochure, the VLSD and a redesigned console with cupholders were both introduced on the '04 6MT models. 5AT sedans, both '03 and '04, did not have VLSD, regardless of sport package or not. Don't know about '05 and after, or the Canadian models though - does it show the VLSD on your window sticker and/or invoice??

Nonetheless, twin rubber marks are a sure sign of some kind of LSD

I can leave equal tire tracks with my 03 and I know it doesn't have VLSD. Just because your car leaves equal length tracks doesn't mean it has VLSD and open diffs don't automatically mean peg legs launches.

My '03.6 6MT had the same center console and cup holders that my '04 6MT has.

Weird, is yours an 03.5? When I bought my car (03.5 5AT, Canada) I was told it has VLSD.

Fireball - Heard that same thing from others now, that some '03.5 6MT's have the cupholders. Obviously, if you've got them, then you've got them.

I based my statement on the fact that when I test drove an '03 Sedan with the first 6MT at that dealership (which they wouldn't sell - only available for test rides, then you had to order a 6MT if you wanted one), there were no cupholders. I remember specifically because the salesman kept trying to get me to buy a 5AT off the lot, using the lack of cupholders as a serious drawback to the 6MT. What a laugh - cupholders hold zero importance to me when it's 6MT vs. 5AT comparison.

So when I heard about the VLSD coming on the '04's, I decided to wait, and when I found my car, they kept pointing out the "redesigned console, now with cupholders" aspect of the '04 6MT. I don't know when the redesigned console made it's first appearance (obviously '03.5 some time), just believed the sale people when they said it was new for '04.

Thanks for the correction - that's why I like this forum - real world people, real cars, real life.

Obender:

Here's a better test - on dry pavement, start at a street corner and make a hard right turn while lighting the tires. Outside wheel should not leave a deep tread mark without an LSD, and it also should "fishtail" as it starts to grab traction. Other than that, you can probably just crawl under the car and take down the part # of your differential, then check with Infiniti as to what that part # is. Also, some have stated that the two differentials (i.e., the "pumpkins") do not look the same, so if you can locate photos of a VLSD unit, you can probably tell just by looking, too.

Good luck.
