I swear, the media always likes to play up the Doom's Day card. There's a lot of "could" talk in that article. All that could talk will inevitably drive up prices which is pure BS. The truth is we won't know until it happens. Hurry up and wait and hope for the best. The chances of the storm hitting a major port is unlikely, but not impossible. I expect there will be some damage, but I don't see a total system shutdown. The storm is still 3 days out. A lot can happen. It's already reached Category 5 and usually when that happens the storm begins to suck it's energy out of the atmosphere too quickly and starts to drop in intensity rapidly.

I just love the media. "It's going to take 90 days to get the water out of New Orleans!!!!!!!!!!!!". Look at NO now, there's hardly any water left after 2 weeks of pumping. "There will be tens of thousands dead in NO due to Katrina!!!!". So far the death toll for Katrina is 1,000. "$3 gas is here to stay !!!!!!!!". Average gas prices dropped to around $2.45 as of last week.

It's the media of hysteria. The classic example I always use was Northern California in 1999 when I actually heard the words "Great White Death Watch" on a local news station.

Yeah - but it is junk like this that will get greedy station owners jacking up prices overnight, which makes the stations down the street go up $.10 more to keep up, then after dinner they all jack them up again.

Haha, don't remind me. I guess El Nino petered out because it got caught up in the huge masses of bees. :P

Ya, prices were up 0.10c a litre here yesterday, looks like 5 more cents today. I'm sure after Rita goes away they'll travel back down again, though.

Same **** happened in Ontario today. One idiot gas owner was "anticipating" higher gas prices beacuse of "anticipated " damage by hurricane. He jacked up price to $2 CAD/litre, or about $6 USD/gallon this morning. As a result mass hystreia started with many other gas stations raising prices and creating huge line ups at stations still selling at about $3/gallon. 7pm-most of the stations still sell it at $3/gallon.
It takes one moron to throw something in deep water and 10 wise guys to take it out...

$2.45-2.50 was what 87 was going for in Kansas City. 91/92 was about $2.70. I filled up today and paid $2.89 for 92.

Just as I thought, Rita has lost her intensity. Yesterday she dropped to a Cat. 4 and today she dropped to a Cat. 3. Houston also appears to be west of the Rita's projected path. A predict a lower Cat. 3 to hit just east of Port Arthur. Today the price of oil dropped due to Rita's downgrade and projected path.

I was watching CNN last night and they were on a patrol with the Galvaston police. They were driving around and the officer was saying "I can't believe this will all be gone in a few days (pointing to buildings and homes)." She went on to say "They (I assume the Dooms Day media) are saying a 30 foot storm surge. It will all be gone." Hmmmm....it looks like they're only going to get a 10-12' surge.

Freaking media.

it is not the media.. Georgie's bush's buds need to make a killing on profits since the poor babies are only making like 250% profit... They love when this happens... And you never get the truth. They want you to behappy that you have gas at 5 bucks a gallon.

I wouldn't mind so much about paying more if I knew that the oil conpanies were not getting more money they anyone ever got on the planet. Maybe that extra profit should go to the iraq war since it is about oil anyway!!!

Why do liberals have to bring politics into every conversation, and make every misfortune an attack for their personal gain? I guess you believe that hurricane Katrina intentionally sought out the poor black areas, and that the inept local authorities had nothing to do with the problems

And how dare liberals bring racism into such a sad situation? All for political gain. Without basis, and dispicable. Shame on the people that played this card....If these idiots knew in the first place that FEMA is not a first response organization, maybe they could have spoken intelligently. Instead, they succeeded in showing their moronic, twisted, and baseless views. Again.

I'll honk at you on the road next time I see your Mondale-Ferraro sticker......

Gimmee a break.....
