Outrageous Service Charges

According to my Infiniti service manager, I need the following:
Front Break Pads & Rotors ($609)
Drive Belt/ AC Belt Replacement ($214)
60,000 mile service ($474)
Rear Tires & Alignment (not priced)

I am probably looking at over $1500 in service costs when all is said and done.

I have a 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan with approximately 59,000 miles.

This is the second time they are replacing the brake rotors, the first time we contacted Infiniti Corporate and complained and got that cost reimbursed. Then they did that one time recall.

Anyone have any recommendations or information on any of the above?

Go to a reputable garage and get a second opinion 1st of all - or go to a nissan dealership - most of them will work on our cars from what I have been told.

Consider having the work done by someone other than the dealer.

It sucks something awful but it may be needed - I wouldn't assume they are full of **** but I wouldn't assume they aren't either

Over $200 just to put on a belt!? I'm not sure how much rotors are but $600 for a brake service sounds like robbery. These may be needed now or in the near future but those prices sound high.

HA! I feel your pain man. The dealer I like in my town (1 of only 2) told me they charged $840 for the 30K service. Check your owners manual for the REQUIRED maintenance and not the extra fluff they throw in at the dealership. Check around for a local shop that does honest work at an honest price. A local mechanic I trust, who has also seen all my previous vehicles, did the required maintanence, a couple of the recommended services and install on some aftermarket items for $350

Go to aftermarket for brakes. There're lots of choices out there. Any garage can install them-no need to go to dealer.

600 hundred for brakes is about right. Rotors and pads are simple to do, you could save yourself a ton of money doing it yourself.
I can't help you with the cost of the other services.

For the belts and the 60,000 mile service that's about right for dealership costs. As far a brakes are concerned, I've never priced it for our cars but just for comparison I paid $412 for the same complete brakes service on an 89 accord at Midas. It just looks bad because you're trying to get tehm done at the same time ($1500) however individually they're about right. If you trust other places besides your dealership you can always shop around.

$600 just for front brakes isnt even close to right. Go to EBC and get some cross-drilled slotted rotors and green stuff pads for $600 front and rear and get to know your car and put em on yourself. Save a lot of money plus brakes arent that hard you just gotta know the basics.

I have 32,000 on my o4 6mt cpe. Brought it in to the dealer cuz i was hearing noised in the rear. I wanted them to also check on the brake pads (brembos). service guy came back said that they need to order a new bolt for they sway bars because that is where the noise is coming from. That was covered under the warranty. What isnt covered is the parts and labor that they are charging me for brakes. Heres the low down

Front pads- $202.71 each; $412.37 w labor

Front Rotors-$518.88 each; $1118.19w labor

Grand total= $1530.56

Hmm think I'm gonna replace the pads myself.
This dealer is HOEHN INFINITI in Carlsbad, Ca

Nissan dealerships can work on it as long as it isn't warranty work.

I've had oil changes done at the local nissan dealership (since the nearest Infiniti is 100 miles away), and have been told other optional work can be done there.

OMG totondee77, I thought I had it bad. That is rediculous. I would love to be able to do the brake service myself, but I am not sure what "the basics" consist of. If it is as easy as nuts and bolts, I am game.

I took it that $200 was for the belt and labour to install.....If that's the case, then it's not too bad a price for a dealership...
Those serpentines are not cheap. Putting it on should take a pro about 10 minutes tho.
