Class Action! For the UnSafe dangerous Brakes
Class Action! For the UnSafe dangerous Brakes
Dear Fellow Car Enthusiast.
I’ve check with some Infiniti sites, and there is a lot! of 2003 G35 owners with this brake trouble.
Get this:
Brake Pads, and Rotors are needing to be replaced completely from 10K miles and 16k miles!!
Dealers charging $500 to $850 for this service
Brakes squeak all the time and get this, after the first month and at every oil change I told them about the brake squeak! They just kept saying, “you have Performance Brakes, they are suppose to do that”
I’m like WTF?
Well, I have 16k miles and Cutter Motors Infiniti in Santa Barbara, said, “Hey you need new brakes” Its $300 for the fronts and $200 for the backs, I’m like What?
I thought those were under warranty, he said, “nope, its like wear and tear, kind of like Tires.”
Then I said, “How long are they guaranteed for?” He said, we don’t guarantee them...
I’m like hmm, basically they are getting me ready for the next brake job at 30k.
I called Infiniti Consumer Affairs and they said the same line, “You have performance brakes, it’s natural. I’m like, I want to file a complaint, they were like are you sure, Im like YES! I wouldn’t doubt it, but I have some weird feeling that Infiniti is feeding the dealers this same crappy line, so I don’t blame Cutter Infiniti, but they should Man up!
I have emailed All the Car Magazine editors to investigate this problem!
Heck! This is a safety issue, some G35 drivers at 12k miles have said when they been informed that they need new brakes and rotors!
Please Help….. I pasted some links from G35 forums below….sorry for writing this long email.

Re: Class Action! For the UnSafe dangerous Brakes
They are safe. Performance brakes and tires stop your car on a dime, but the price is they wear out more quickly. They're only unsafe if you neglect them.
You could argue that having to replace them so frequently is wrong somehow, but I don't think the "safe" approach will fly when the car can stop about as well as a Porsche.
There are aftermarket brake pads available that provide less brake dust, longer rotor life, better performance under higher operating temperatures, and longer pad life.

Re: Class Action! For the UnSafe dangerous Brakes
My breaks have Never squealed! I have the stock breaks on
my 2003 G35 and they never make a sound. I've been quite
impressed with them, except for the front dust. BTW bought mine
used with 16500 miles, now it has 23,000. I'm not sure the breaks
were replaced under the previous lease aggrement, they might
have been.
God I love this car!

Re: Class Action! For the UnSafe dangerous Brakes
couldn't we just go with aftermarket pads like ebc green/red stuff at a much cheaper price tag?

If the breaks wear out as fast as some of thes guys suggest, it
would be cheaper to replace with Stillen stuff and get better
performance/life from them. I see no reason to stick to Infiniti
cheap stuff!

Checked the printed dealers computer history of my car
that I got when bought used 16500 miles. When my car
went up for sale at the end of lease, it got 2 new front tires,
new front break pads, new rear break pads and 4 wheel
allignment. No wonder mine seem good, they are like
brand f*&k*Ng new! Sounds like they will need replacing
at least once a year.

This is not all that unusual. I had a 1995 Volvo 940 wagon that went through 2 complete sets of rotors and pads by 22,000 miles. Everyone I've talked to that owned similar Volvos had the similar problems, mostly warped rotors.
Our previous Audis and VWs went about 60,000 miles before replacing rotors and pads with the same driving pattern as for the Volvo. That Volvo is the worst car I've ever owned.

Re: Class Action! For the UnSafe dangerous Brakes
If your brakes are squeeling, one thing you might want to try is to do a couple of hard braking stops. This should heat up the brakes and burn off any dust or gunk caught between the pads and rotors. This is especially helpful if you generally brake lightly most or all of the time, and the brakes only squeel under light pressure -- as you're not braking hard enough to get rid of accumulated dust.
Properly bedding new pads and rotors together is supposed to help pad and rotor life and reduce squeeling, as well.

As some of you have sad, they wear out faster than most but they ARE considered perfomance oriented and stop us pretty darn well.
Changing to EBC Green Stuff or something similar may not give you any more miles between changes but should help with the dust. EBC does have a disclaimer in their instructions that say their pads may wear faster than you are used to.
I love the way the "G" can stop on a dime, don't like the dust though. I can put up with the seemingly fast wear.

True. Pads are relatively cheap. It's the rotors I wouldn't want to have to replace often.

You have never owned a BMW have you because this is nothing new. It is actually the price you pay to get the level of braking our cars have. You may want to consider the Stillen replacements but as for class action-ain't gonna happen.

What are you Nostradamus? j/k... It might happened, if not, then some sort of feedback from Infiniti would be good.
They know that a lot of people are mad, or do you think that Infiniti should just ignore us?

Re: Class Action! For the UnSafe dangerous Brakes
It's not going to happen.... lawyers want big $$$ and big $$$ come from problems where people are getting hurt... your brakes wearing out too fast isn't getting anybody hurt so the big $$$ are not there hence no lawyers swarming like sharks.
If the brakes wearing out is such a big problem then switch to a different less aggressive pad material....
Would ceramic pads be an option for this guy?

Re: Class Action! For the UnSafe dangerous Brakes
Your right about the class action. Even if it did make it to court odds are the judge would throw it out. But it doesn't hurt to complain to Inifiniti. Maybe next redeisgn they will get a better compromise on perfermance/longevity.
My 2000 prelude would stop on the dime and I didn't have to replace those for 36,000 miles.. but then again my lude was some what lighter...
One thing to take into consideration is driving habits. I know I know, everyone says I don't drive aggressive, but I swear the majority of drivers i've seen out there tailgate and are always speeding and slamming on there brakes for when they can't make the yellow light. The more aggressive driver you are the shorter your brakes will last.
My yonger sister and her husband would always complain about replacing her Honda Accord brakes every 15,000 miles. I was like its because you drive so aggressive but she's swears she doesn't, but everytime i ride with her its like a freaking roller coster right, always changing lanes, tailgating hitting the brakes at the last second when its clearly visable that the traffic is slowing down ahead. Stuff like this will kill your brakes...
