03 doggy trunk

i have an 03 with the doggy trunk and i was wondering if i bought a trunk from an 04 sedan without that stupid doggy trunk, (i like the way infiniti is spelled out throughtout the whole trunk) and i was wondering if i do this how will i be able to open the trunk because on the 04s theres a switch inside the car and on the 03 theres the button on the trunk????? will i be able just to use the key button???

IMO the "doggie door" is not bad looking, something to designate it's the first G35, just my $.02

I too like the original trunk. You won't want to lose the extra trunk button.

My vote is for the 05 Trunk. I didn't buy an 03 just because of that stupid doggy door.

What is different on the '05 trunk, isn't it the same as the '04?

I have 03 1/2 with newer trunk. I think they got rid of the doggie trunk after the first 6 months.

I think this is a valid question. I like the look of the '04 trunk better as well. I don't hate my doggy door and I like the button there, but the '04 trunk is much cleaner.

He'd have to wire in a new switch release to the dash. I'll bet it's possible if he really doesn't like the D/D trunk.

By the way, are you guys saying the doggie door has a release button on the trunk? How is that possible without the Intelligent Key? Maybe I just misundertood this.

Yes the doggy door has a button that can open the trunk if the doors are unlocked. The button is hidden under the indented handle of the doggy door. I don't think Intelli-Key was offered in until '04.

I am not sure about this so please let me know if I am wrong. I thought the 04's did not have the smart key so they didn't have the trunk release button on the back left of the car. Do the 04s and 05s have the external trunk release button? How does it work if the car does not have the smart key?

Okay, that makes sense then, that the doors have to be unlocked, I think the '05 w/o the I-key works the same way.

We don't have the smartkey thingy and we still have the button to open the trunk on our '05. When we bought the car the stupid sales guy told us it was to cover some kind of sensor that we don't have but my husband either hit it or pressed it down when cleaning it or something and the trunk opened up. It's just a little oval that looks like a bolt cover of some kind. Check to see if you have one.
