Got hit by a friend.
If you were going to do the right thing, then why did you originall want to claim hit and run in the parking lot. Ok, so your friend is going to a rough time, should he not be extra careful? Even if you both have the same insurance, it would not increase premiums for everyone. Insurance companies have already thought of the fact that an accident might involve two or more that are insured by them. They base premium increases on YOUR driving history and accidents. NOT two people with the same insurance company. Fraudelent claims increase everyone's premiums!, not you both having to file a claim with the same company.

The following reasons made me think in those lines
1. I like and respect the relationship that I have with my buddy, who is currently having financial and personal issues. It would be unfair to make him pay for the unfortunate accident at this point of his life. Infact he offered to pay for the damages, right after the incident occurred (ofcourse in installments).
2. We both hold the insurance from the same company. From what I understand about insurance, if the claims come from my account or from my buddy's the net premium would obviously rise for everyone(no matter which account it came from).
Please correct me if I am wrong but, based on the above I think that my judgement is fair.
But going to the insurance is not my final decision. I am willing to spend 800 to repair the damages, that would be 300 more than my deductible. All I need to know is an estimate(mechanical-wise and not cosmetic) for such an accident.

The fact that you're only "willing" to spend $800 on the damages means that if the estimate is $1000 you're still going to go through your insurance under a fraudulent claim.

Insurance fraud is insurance fraud. The right thing is the right thing. I don't understand the problem with this decision. If your buddy was at fault, report the incident to his insurance carrier. If your buddy had rather pay for the repairs out of pocket, that is a legitimate option. Anything else seems wrong. JMO
