Got hit by a friend.

I was hit from the rear by a buddy of mine while I was waiting at a yeild sign. There was not much damage except for a small crack/splintered portion just near the license plate on the rear bumper. It is not visible at a first glance, but it is noticable when you search for damage.

At home, I found that when I try to open the trunk it gets stuck a little. I dont know what other internal damage that this accident would have caused.

I am planning to report that I was hit at the parking lot by someone (hit&run). Would this increase my premium? (I have complete coverage)

If I dont go for insurance, how much would it cost me ??? I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow, I think that it would be better to know what might be broken/ what might be be involved at the rear end of the G35.

Regards
Henry

If you go through insurance it will most definitely raise your premiums. Just have your buddy do the right thing and pay for the damage they caused.

I would get an accurate estimate of the damage and work it out with the friend. If the friend does not take care of you either through his insurance or cash, I wouldn't consider him a friend. If you claim it on your insurance, it's going to cost you a lot of money in the long run. The situation sucks but you should not have to suffer because of your friends mistake.

I think in some cases it might not raise your insurance. One of my cars got hit in a parking lot on and it was covered under Comprehensive instead of Collision (Comprehensive deductible was lower in my case). It was treated like vandalism and did not raise my rates. I have a long-term relationship with my Insurance Agent so that may have helped but you should ask.

Whaddup with your friends insurance? Unless there's more to the story, that "friend" should step up to the plate in some fashion either through their insurance or paying out of pocket.

Insurance fraud is awesome! I love when my premiums are increased needlessly because people have no sense of personal responsibility anymore! Maybe after you falsely report the accident you can apply for disabilty based on your whiplash. Might as well become as big a burden on society as humanly possible, right?

ROFLMAO!!!
I was recently a victim of Hit and run. The Bit*h smashed into my rear bumber and collapsed the corner. Then took off like a bandit. The cost ro replace and paint the rear bumper was $637.20. I had to eat $250 of it as part of my "Uninsured Motorist Insurance" aka "Cheap *** Son of a B1tch insurance"

No problem, you can leave that to me. I realize my post was pretty harsh, but this sort of thing just rubs me the wrong way bigtime. It's like people abusing welfare, disabilty, socialized health care, food stamps...whatever. Unless you're literally stealing from someones grandmother you pretty much can't get any lower.

Had something happen like that. I was pulled in behind my friend in a driveway and we were leaving so i backed out into the street and had to stop because a neighbor started to walk across the street behind my car. My friend in his Raised up bronco didnt see my low sitting prelude had stopped and he smashed the front corner of my car. Needless to say it was an accident, but he was responsible for not paying attention that I had stopped, and he did offer/pay for the damage.

Bottom line. Two things you can do.
1) Live with the damage to your car if your friendship with that person means so much.
2) Have your friend pay for the damage (which in my opinion he/she should). If he/she will not pay for the damage ask for there issurance.

As far as frauding your issurance company that should not even be an option. Even tho it might be temping with the prices they charge us drivers, but one big reason of high rates is because of fraud. The other reason is there just plain greedy

If you claim hit and run, just to get your friend out of paying for what is ovbiously his/her fault, then go for it. Just remember you have now become a statistic for higher insurance premiums for everyone. You are no better than someone who robs a convenience store, or steals something from a store. Be a man, ask your friend to pay for it and if he is a true friend at all, he will, if not, there are many others out there, lose him/her and file a claim on his/her insurance.

There is always a choice, and as an adult, you hope you make the RIGHT choice....

I completely agree. I think it would be less money down the line if he paid out of pocket.

I am happy to see so many people care about society and its welfare. I respect that and my thoughts are aligned in similar lines.

The following reasons made me think in those lines

1. I like and respect the relationship that I have with my buddy, who is currently having financial and personal issues. It would be unfair to make him pay for the unfortunate accident at this point of his life. Infact he offered to pay for the damages, right after the incident occurred (ofcourse in installments).

2. We both hold the insurance from the same company. From what I understand about insurance, if the claims come from my account or from my buddy's the net premium would obviously rise for everyone(no matter which account it came from).

Please correct me if I am wrong but, based on the above I think that my judgement is fair.

But going to the insurance is not my final decision. I am willing to spend 800 to repair the damages, that would be 300 more than my deductible. All I need to know is an estimate(mechanical-wise and not cosmetic) for such an accident.

coupin827, If you know you are right, you need not hesitate about what people might say. People who do the "RIGHT THING" are hard to find...
