lost power!

I was driving approx 35mph and the 2004 G35 sedan lost power. All the lights on the dash were on, the stereo still playing but I could'nt accelerate. After about 3 seconds the car regained power and was fine. I drove another mile, stopped the car and restarted. The car initially started fine but after the second attempt it just made a clicking noise. One day prior I noticed a slight whirring noise coming from the engine compartment and getting higher and faster as I accelerated. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Not sure I understand....Will the G start at all? If it won't start and you hear a clicking noise when you turn the key, a good bet is the battery is dead.
That happend to our Maxima a couple of months ago.

Unhappy It still starts

Yes it starts but not all the time. Can the battery make it lose power or stall once the car is running?

Not 100% sure, but if it won't start all the time and it just clicks when it won't start, it is your battery. Take it to the dealer and get a new one under warranty? When we bought our new 2000 Maxima, back in 2000, it failed to start one week after we bought it. All it would do was make a clicking noise. Took her back to the dealer. They swapped the battery and it was as good as new until the battery died again last month. Having that experience in the back of my mind, I went to the dealer and talked to the service guy. I described what the Max was doing, not starting and making a clicking noise. He said " definitly the battery!" Go get a new one. So that's just what I did. She started up right away and no problems since...except for buying a new automatic transmission for $3100.

If it happened while it was running, it could be the alternator.

yeah it could be both. if the alternator goes it usually runs off the battery. thats a possibilty that the battery has been running the whole time the alternator went on you. good luck man

That whirring sounds like an alternator problem in this context. Sounds like your alternator went, the battery stopped charging and eventually your battery died.

Good luck!

I had nearly the same exact thing happen to me about 2 months ago. Lost power going around a corner, but the car continued to run. I turned it off, and back on, and went 1/4 mile and it happened again. I could get up to about 20 mph to limp home, but the throttle was very non-responsive. In my case, it was the Throttle Position Sensor. Problem was none were in stock at my dealer, so I had a loaner for about a week.

Check the Trottle sensor as stated above but also should the alternator nor the battery be the problem check the starter. I had a similar problem with an OLD prelude that I had when I first started driving and recently my dad's Villager (minivan) was doing some similar things. I told him to check the starter to which he sniffed and said whatever. After about a week and a half of doing other "stuff" to it what did he end up doing to fix it - replace the starter!! In the case of my old car it was a short in the internal workings of the starter that told the car you were doing things to the switch you weren't doing (that's the short version). Let us know what the dealer says and hope they get it fixed soon.

The whirring noise can also be your A/C.

your car will stay running if the battery dies while car is running and will operate normally until it is turned off.

The exact opposite of what you described happened to me when my alternator failed on my previous car. At a stop light, I noticed my stereo cut out, and my tachometer literally droop and sag. When I revved the engine, everything came back on. The car accelerated fine, but all the electrical systems did not work. We tried a new battery and had the same troubles; it was the alternator.
