I'd say I'm 80% freeway driving....Average MPG is 24.7 (it'll hit 25, but drop when I start the car the next day).

Best straight freeway mileage was around 28.

I have been getting 23/24 avg on an 05 G35x. The first tank of gas in january had me getting about 18. Once I got about 1000 miles on the car I saw improvement to 21. This was in the winter. Come the spring and summer I was getting in the 20s.

I am sure the RWD will do a couple of miles better. I drive anout 40 miles a day and about 75% highway. I usually do between 70-80 on the highway.

I want to thank EVERYONE for responding. I test drove it. What can I say. I love it. I feel another post coming on, because I'm trying to decide between the 05 and the 06. Feel free to keep posting ( shouldn't something like this had been made a sticky by now, I know I can't be the only one with these questions ).

ENJOY YOUR CARS !

I get around 17 with my 6mt. I have gotten as high as 25 on long trips that were all freeway.

If you really want better gas mileage get an AT. with the MT your more likely romp on it and subsequently you'll get worse gas mileage

I have yet to see a sub 20 mpg in my 6mt G35. I get 21-22 city stop n go type of driving for work / service calls. The G35 to Dallas doing 80-85 mpg got 25-26mpg. And this is with some redline runs in each tank.

Yep, 18.3 mpg (299 miles on 16.3 gallons) beating on my car pretty dang hard this go around. That's with 100% city driving.

Around town, the 6MT "should" get slightly better MPGs (10-15%) because of it's more efficent use of power. There is a lot of torque converter slippage with the 5AT during stop and go and traffic. On the highway, there shouldn't be much difference because the torque converter locks and effectively has a direct connection to the tranny and no power loss like the 6MT.

Welcome Marcelo, and congrats on the future G.........

MPGs can be hard to squeeze out of a G but it can be done with the sacrifice of some performance and fun.
Typically expect 15-20 mpgs with performance driving, and 20-25 or more without.
Colder climates, short trips, and long warmups seem to have a bigger negative effect on g's than other rides I've owned.
I love the rides and sacrifice some economy for it.

C.

Thanks for the welcome. I've already picked out the colors. Now wondering about what kind of deal I might be able to fenagle for a 05 instead of an 06.

I don't necessarily race around( not since my days of taking my Dodge Stealth up to 1__+ on the closest thing we have to an autobahn in SoFla...the 869 Sawgrass Expwy. Did I just admit that ? Then again, that was over a decade ago, and I didn't have kids. ), so hopefully I should be fine. I just want the best ride for the Cha-Ching, and frankly, I'm pretty convinced it's the G. My GF would love for me to get the M, but maybe if I get a promotion, we'll see.

Thanks again for the welcome.

I'm not positive, but I doubt you will find a comparable motor that will get much better. If you are concerned about mpg you should probably consider a 4 cly or hybrid
Same engine in my Maxima got 24-26 MPG - most of it highway, but that included a number of big launches at lights and such.

I think its the weight and the gearing of the G35 that causes it to just burn through gas.

I guess there must be something wrong with my car because last time I measured I got 12.8 miles per gallon. I even took it to the dealer for them to check it out and they said that it "corresponds to the manufacturer's specs".
I don't do a lot of "spirited driving" and most of the time my wife drives the car. Is there anyone else getting this kind of mileage?

P.S.
90% is city driving...

well, this is my only real concern with the G...that and the stereo---those 2 things keep the TL lingering in the back of my mind.

this sounds like me though. i drive about 75 miles a day, bout 80% hwy. i can happily live with 24mpg...i only get 25 mpg now with my 1996 maxima with a laughable 190HP

I used to get around 27MPG with my 96 5 speed Maxima when I was driving around 85% hwy. However, my G doesn't pull as hard as I thought it would compared to my old Maxima. I guess 500lbs less and manual make up for the fewer 90HP.

That's great milage for X, what crusing speed you set at?

I believe there might be a big difference on Hway Crusing speed setting.
My car does 80% Hway & started with 15mpg & now is settled at 18mpg consistantly.

I cruise at 80mph, that's 3200 rpm rev.

I am testing 75mph crusing now, it revs at 2900 rpm.
Crusing at 70mph would be around 2600 rpm.

I think 3200 rpm may cause a lot more gas than 2600 rpm cruising.

So if someone want best mpg, may need to cruise at 70 mph or less?

I also found that if crusise at >76 mph, WOT does not triger down shift,
There for, for best response on Hway racing, set cruise to 76 or less. Or manually down shift othwise, the car won't be "pulling" hard no matter how hard you step on the gas.

I get 19 mpg in a 2005 G35x. There is never a variation according to the navigation system fuel economy section. I can drive in the city or on the highway and still get 19 mpg. From the day I first drove it off the lot to today, it's never changed. At highway speeds which I tend to do about 80-85 mph to 30 mph streets. I don't beat the car either so I'm shocked to see some of the AWD sedans getting better gas mileage.
