Wife getting angry - passenger vibration
Wife getting angry - passenger vibration
Hey all,
My wife is pregnant, and doesn't enjoy riding in my 2 month old 2005 G35. She says she can really feel the road, and the car makes her nauseous.
When she's not in the car I can visibly see the passenger seat vibrating.
I was going to take it in for an alignment check and make sure the wheels and tires are normal, but I was thinking that with only 3000 km's, it shouldn't be mis aligned already.
Any other suggestions?

Wrknhard,
1st it is possible the car is misaligned. this can be caused by over cranking down on the wheels when its shipped.
2nd. "supposidly" the cars are aligned agressively from the factory to provide the best performance, I doubt #2 will cause any vibration... only additional tire wear.
only thing i can say is you may need to make a sacrifice. "perhaps" (big perhaps) changing the rims to 17's and adding more rubber will cushion the ride. Be thankful the G is top rated for resale value, so swapping it out at the dealer for a softer ride will only cost you a $2-5k. id say you need to keep her happy as much as possible, cause you will pay for this the REST OF YOUR LIFE.
GL in your choice , please let us know how you make out !

My wife never complains about vibration in fact she used to enjoy the rides I would give her on my old Vespa scooter but that is another story altogether.
An easy fix is a piece of memory foam on the passenger seat which will cushion the ride considerably. Pregnant women gots all kinds of complaints Luckily they don't last too long.

Alignment has nothing to do with what's going on. FYI, all front seats will vibrate and visually move when no one is sitting in them. Even BMWs do this. That's just the nature of car seats.
Your wife is going to have to understand that your G is a sports sedan. It is going to ride somewhat rough and motions are going to be a lot more direct and the seats will be firm. It's not going to ride like a Buick. Try airing down the tires and see if things improve.
Your wife also has to accept the fact that she's pregnant and her hormones are going nuts and that motion and odor sickness are common problems associated with being pregnant.
If it's still a problem, just take her car when you guys are together.

Yeah, no TSB for the passenger's seat. However, here is the one for the driver's seat.

check the tire pressure first. I am not sure how you drive but the G does accelerate fast and turn great. Maybe the sudden jerking motion makes her sick.
My wife complains about I being accelerate too fast to make her head bounce. But she loves the reclining back seat with our kid now.

I agree with PP. The alignment may be way off......BTW this is warranty until about 12k miles or so.......anyone confirm this??? (check your warranty book).
Additionally, you may want to get all the wheels' balance checked. It can be difficult to get good wheel balance these days, but it is possible. Check around for a reputable dealer.
And finally, make sure the tires have the correct pressures. Overinflating can cause a harsh ride.

1. Check the tire pressure.
2. Check the alignment
3. Have someone else ride in the car to see if they notice the vibration.
Your wife is pregnant and frankly some of us are less than pleasant in that condition. How far along is she? If it's in the first half then she may well have a valid argument. If it's the last half then she may just be so miserable that it wouldn't matter.
Either way, don't get rid of the car until post baby and she can decide what she thinks about it when she is "normal"
. If she has her own car, you might want to limit the amount of time you spend in your car - that's an easy fix for the short term at least.
Good luck and congrats on the little one on the way!

Do you have the sport suspension? If so, maybe the ride is just too firm and your wife is much more sensitive being prego. It wouldn't hurt to go back to the dealer and see what they can do for you (alignment or tire balancing).
i have stock 19"s on my car and the passenger seat DOESNT vibrate... or if it does i shure cant see it.
sounds like an alignment or wheel problem. memory foam GREAT IDEA. cover all the bases so you dont loose your car !
