[QUOTE]You would think most people buying a car built on the same platform as a Nissan 350z is going to be a very sporty car. All those cars were built for their purpose, as was the G. If you are not performance oriented, get a car that suits your taste.[QUOTE]

Agreed, and well said.

But there is a fundamental difference between the 350z and the G35 regardless of the platform: whereas the 350z is marketed as a sports car with some good amenities, the G35 is marketed as an upscale luxury performance sedan. I'm my mind, that takes a different direction than what the 350z is trying to accomplish, and sets my expectations differently. For instance, I could live with rattles owning a 350z because it's more of a pure sports car, and that is what you are buying; performance over attention to detail - not what I expected w/the G35 being marketed as what it is.

And you’re also right that Infiniti is not the only one that skimps, but that's not an excuse to me at this price range. Again I'm just as disappointed at my RX 330 for the same reasons - same goes for my '05 Acura TL that I traded in on my G35x.

However, it certainly is not a POS by any means and certainly have not thought about getting another car at this time, but the concerns are real issues nonetheless...

Perhaps agree to disagree is best course of action here

They are going to give me a rental car which they said will probably be a G35 (too bad it probably won't be a coupe! ) and will call me when it's done. I'm hoping this fixes all of the rattles once and for all because I'm not looking to make this a weekly affair of bringing it back and forth for the same problems. Also, ChicagoX, it's easy to make an appointment with a dealership... until you get a call from a client to schedule an appointment or have to meet with your manager etc... But on top of all of that, I'm an exclusive buyer's agent whereas I'd assume you are probably more heavily into listing properties. Because of this, I am on the road and meeting people much more often than someone who lists properties. Getting rid of the G35 is moronic because the only car that I liked otherwise was the Mazda3 and clearly there is a reason why I got the G35 the first time around. I was just shocked by all the issues reported on a brand that is nearly at the top of the J.D. Powers surveys for quality... ( http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=7086 ) Infiniti is equal to Toyota in that study... I will update this thread once I get my car back.
It's supposed to be an Infiniti loaner, not a rental, according to Infiniti, my dealer has always given me an Infiniti loaner, LOL, even though it has "service loaner" on the license plate frame.

Go to Bimmerfest, Acurazine or IS300.net they and read their forums. They to also
have rattles and shakes, plus far worse problems.

No car is immune.

I've never owned a car that was rattle-free. This car is the most solidly built (inside and out) car I've ever owned. Despite its 18" wheels, summer tires, and performance suspension, it rides like a luxury car.

I know how you guys feel. My G has been going back to the shops more often than my 13 yr old accord. Gas filling issue, rear door squeaks, emblem falling off, etc. Scheduled another visit next week for the console, clock, vent rattles and wiper chattering. Hopefully everything would get resolve next week.

Short of the HIDs, those features have been added. Then again, those cars have their own issues.
Every car has issues, the G's are minor. The creaking plastics in the car are a pain, though fixable. The Brakes on the 05x might be a pain in the ***, that's for sure. We'll have to see how the Nissan decides to deal with this issue.

I wouldn't stress the small stuff, it'll get sorted out by the dealer over time. When the snow starts to fall, I think you'll feel pretty good about your x.

I'm sure I will... The Legacy GT Limited at the time didn't have those features... they only came with the Outback 3.0R. Now that the Spec.B is out, it's all been fixed except for one very subjective detail... The G35 sedan is clearly more attractive and easier on the eyes than the GT Limited.

I too have an 05 x, admittedly without the Nav system (so no comment on that) but the legendary "squeaks and rattles" must have skipped me, mine is a quiet as any A4, TL etc. The brakes problems were solved in 05 as far as I am aware. The interior materials are better in 05 than the previous years but not true "luxury" like lots of wood etc. I really don't like the orange LEDs. But as a whole package was (and is) for me the way to go. No regrets.

What LuckyR said ^^^. Mine had such small issues and I fixed those myself. My car is just coming up to 13K miles and it's a great car. I can't wait for winter to come so I can try the all-wheel drive.

I had an '03 coupe when I lived in California. I sold it when I moved and bought a used '03.5 sedan here in Ontario. I was aware of the shortcomings of the interior, and my coupe had rattles in both windows (both fixed), but I loved that car. Of all the cars I've owned the G's have been far and away my favorites. No real problems whatsoever, good power, good handling, comfortable, and they look great. IMO, you can't beat them for under the price. Yes, there are shortcomings, but I'd much, much rather have a slightly cheaper interior than a pig, or worse, an ub-reliable car.

(and ya, I know it's real aluminium in the '05's, I was referring to the 03/04's)

Well we all know those studies aren't the best - however I think they focus much more on mechanical reliabilty than rattles and shakes. I agree, for a near-luxury car the G35 does seem to have more rattles than some other cars in it's segment, however if you spend time reading forums specific to other cars in this segment you'll see the differences aren't as pronounced as you might have originally thought. Actually, spending time reading some bimmer boards when researching my wifes car left me feeling that much better about my G. Aside from a couple grinding trannys I've seen almost no major machanical issues here. There it seems like every days someone has a real problem.

The sticker was just over $40K - no I did not pay sticker as I leased it, but that did include items such factory installed XM sat, front chin spoiler, rear spoiler, ect..

Point being that as you approach the $40K barrier, one would think that these petty assembly issues/cheep interror parts would not be so abundant - but as someone said no car is ammune to this, which I agree with.

I think that you need to accept that at the current time, this is how cars are.

I just didn't realize that the X was that much more. Never looked at them honestly. Our '05 was a little under 35K for sticker so even with the few options we didn't get it would have only been in the 38K range.

Anyway, I see what you mean about the cost but I don't really agree since we have the engine/performance that we do. To get a car at this price there WILL be tradeoffs depending on which one you get. What can you live with is what you have to address. Besides, the rattles that some have dealt with have been pretty easily fixed and then you still have the performance to play with.
