I'm so glad that there's a g35 webpage. I've had my 2003 g35 sedan for a couple of months now, and I want to put some rims on it. Problem is, I have no idea where to start! Between the sizes, styles, brand names, prices, and finishes, I'm soooo lost it's not even funny. I keep reading stuff about RWD and FWD and I can't do this alone anymore lol. I don't know anything about rims or tires, can anyone walk me through this??

 

Let me ask you a few questions:

1. How much do you want to spend?
2. Do you have a preference in style? 5 spoke, 10 spoke, mesh?
3. What about wheel size? Your car likely has 16" or 17" wheels now, i would say a 18" or 19" would be ideal, you could go with a 20" wheel too.
4. What color is your car?

Give me something to work with and I will see if I can reccomend something. I would also take a look at some of the threads around here that have many pictures of sedans with wheels to see if there is something you like.

 

TireRack.com sweetie....that's a good place to start looking at rims to see what you like and get an idea of what they cost. You can put your car specs in (including color) and they will give you the "stock" sizes to use. That should get you in the right direction. After you get an idea where your tastes lie you will likely have more questions.

I'm not sure how much Rims go for to be honest. I'd say that I wana spend around $500, give or take obviously. It looks tho I might have to spend around 700-800 if I want a decent pair tho?

I'm not sure what mesh is. Most of the 5 Spokes that I saw look so plain.
Maybe if they were curved or kind of look like knives is the best way I can describe it. Here's some pretty cool looking ones I saw, I want rims that are different, not plain looking.

Here's where I get confused. I know the rim is bigger, but do I have to buy tires too based on what size I get? I'm not really concerned with the size. I'm guessing that I can't use the same tires that I have now. If you can better explain this I'd appreciate it.

Oh and I might be interested in black rims, if they have a thicker shiny outline around it. I'd have to see them to be honest. Some black rims look horrible, they look like your hubcaps fell off. Maybe cuz they're not shiny enough? I dunno.

And that tire rack site is awesome. The Zinik Z9 Sabini rims for the g35 were okay I guess. They're still a bit plain but they're not that bad.

I dunno, maybe you guys can better help me with the above info.

Don't take any offense, but none of the wheels you pictured belong on a G35. They look like they are for an Impala-uhhh!

That being said, let me suggest some 19" wheels that somewhat follow the themes you are looking for (unique, as well as black w/a polished lip), and are relatively inexpensive. I wouldn't put any of these on my car, but they just might match the look you want.

From looking for rims myself for a while I would think for that price you are looking at either buying them from someone, buying them from Ebay or stalking tirerack and finding some on sale.

BTW - TireRack sells 100's of different rims even though they don't have that many that say they are "stock" size, etc for the G. Check them out once you know which rims you want and check the prices from there. They are great with the service and they can answer ALL of your questions about tire size, etc. For that part you might consider giving them a call.

 

damn $500 - $700 for rims AND tires?

i might suggest saving up some more money before you buy new rims, seriously all the rims around that price or either going to be really small (maybe 15" - 16") or really crappy. you might also consider buying used rims, if thats really your budget.

Well no, I know that it would cost much more if I got rims and tires. I just don't understand the whole sizing thing between tires and rims. Do most tires fit on standard 17-18" rims? Or is it common to buy new tires when you are shopping for rims? I just assumed that I'd buy the rims and use the tires that I have right now.

If I need to buy tires too, then I'll probably have to wait, since I'd be spending around $1500 if not more.

 

So, the way I see it you have 2 options:

1. Go with stockish size wheels and use your stock tires. If you do this you will be able to use your stock tires and look for a set of wheels in the $700-$800 range (which is possible for a 16"-17" wheel).

2. Wait a little bit and upsize to some 18"-19" wheels, in which case you would have to buy some tires. This could cost anywhere from $1200 on up. I think you would be much happier with the way a set of 18" wheels vs. the stock size.

I run a set of 18" mesh style wheels that I think look really good on a black car. They are Enkei RPM2's, and I think they run about $1000 for the set from discount tire. Here are some pics on a members black ride (my car is not black)....

 

Your tires alone will cost more than 700 if you get 19s. Best bet is finding some for sale that have tires already mounted.
