Comment and ?? re: VDS and AWD

Comment:

This AWD system is amazing seamless and effective. Tonight in the rain, I stopped the car and gave it about 3/4 throttle (car not broken in yet) to see how the car reacts. It simply launched hard as if I was on dry pavement. With my Volvo S60R, the car spun (front), hopped, and by the time the power transfered to the rear, you pretty much gave up and let up. I'm very impressed with this Infinity system with my simple excersise tonight.

Question:

Because the VDS light never came on (I know how VDS works), can I assume that the system was fast enough to not allow any spin in the rain at 3/4 throttle? Theoretically, spin or slide will cause VDS to blink. Or does it simply take full throttle to make it come on. Next and last question is on dry pavement with VDS off, can the G35x spin at all at full throttle launch?

Your X has very good traction, bro, out of the box.
If it had activated, the slip light would have lit up, and you would have noticed a disinct loss of power.
From what I know, the X will not spin the tires stock with VDC off.

Nope, my X will not spin a tire under a full throttle launch. It just takes off. Sometimes it surprises me at how fast it gets going. It is fun to let the tail out in the dry and the rain though. The AWD is an awesome feature.

I think I just found out why these cars won't spin at launch. But most of you probably already know this.

According to Infinity website, the x, except in snow mode, always starts at a 25/75 frt/rr split at launch, and then adjusts as necessary. Before starting this thread, I was under the impression that it started at 0/100.

As a non AWD owner, if you turn your VCS switch off, does it let you drive in rear wheel only? Or does it still do AWD?

Negative-Turnning off VDC won't allow you to drive around in RWD
However, after about a few miles an hour I can hear the transfer case disengage- And if you find some leaves, at about 5mph in 1st gear, you can fool it into lighting up the rears
The traction is pretty amazing, yet as Rick points out the AWD system isn't so intrusive that it ruins performance. Sure, understeer is the predominate trait, however you learn to use it, particularly out of turns.

VDC is a buzz kill on these cars (AWD/RWD) during performance driving.

While I have some X owners around-
Does anybody feel that their X runs a bit hot? My fans seem to always be on.
The car seems to throw off a ton of heat as well-
I actually posted the other day, asking if anybody had installed an oil cooler- Has anybody installed a different thermostat?

The X does spin out for a second on wet or dry pavement. The rear slipts and then you feel the front pick up to compensate.
