2006 Nav/Bluetooth Photos
2006 Nav/Bluetooth Photos
Here are some photos from a 2006 Sedan. I was very interested in seeing what had changed for '06, and in case there are others who are too I hope these help. Unlike the 2006 M, there is no interface for the phone system via the nav screen. It's all done through the two buttons on the steering wheel and voice commands. Voice commands are limited to the phone system and do not include the nav like on the 2006 M. Sorry for the crappy quality on some of the shots and let me know if there's something specific you want to see.

Yeah I just found out that it doesnt even show the caller number on the radio display. Hell it doesnt even announce who is calling on the VR system. You need to look at the phone to see the caller ID. If they can have the useless TELEPHONE indication on the radio why cant they show the number atleast. VERY POOR IMPLEMENTATION by Infiniti!
New NAV software?

I would like to get the new software for the NAv. I have a 2005 model.
May be i can visit the dealer and argue that the MPG on the 2005 NAV display goes up to 30 MPG only on the interval record. I have gotten 32 MPG a couple of times on the freeway!

Hey saabfan,
Thanks for the pics.
Could you post some pics of the nav screen in Map View (top-down view), in various modes of detail (zoom)?
Has it been definitively concluded that the '06 DVD is incompatible with the '05 system then?

*Disclaimer: I know no "insider" information to validate any of the above conjecture. I'm just guessing based on past experience. Why would an engineer change something that had worked well in the past, especially when it would cost money to re-design additional systems? As an example, notice that the buttons on the wheel are the same, just with different logos, just so the same wiring could be used, etc. Also note that no additional integration has occurred between the Navigation and the Audio systems; BlueTooth is purely implemented in the radio, from everything I've read.
As for the navigation software, I want one too now. I just don't want it for $2,000.
Besides, this kind of verifies the agrument I have for holding off on Navigation systems: Why get one now when they're just maturing, when in two years' time they will be nicer, faster, and easier to use? Oh, and probably either cheaper, or even standard on most nice cars. The same thing happened with digital cameras years ago. My folks got an apple quicktake for about $900 that could take 640x480 blurry pictures in the early-to-mid-90's. Around 2000-2001, a friend of mine bought a 2 megapixel camera for $400 that has a good 1-second delay, and a really slow shutter speed. A year ago I bought a 5 megapixel camera that was smaller, lighter, and faster than all of the above for $350.

You can see the same thing happen for CD players, DVD players, HD TV, and many other technologies. I wanted all of these things, but realized after I bought my DVD player for $300 and saw one just last week in WalMart for $30, that the same thing was happening with each cool new gizmo. The march of technology continues on.

Oh, and try the navigation system in a Honda or an Acura. Its lightyears beyond the one in the G35. I'm a little biased, but rightfully so (*points to his signature*
). Look closely at the icon on the steering wheel in the Acura; its the IBM "ViaVoice" logo. I used to work for the group that developed the voice interface for Honda / Acura at IBM. It'll work while the windows are down at 30 mph with no problems.
When an Infiniti can do that, add a touch screen, and not add much to the price of the car, I'm sold.
Wow, that's a long rant. Oh well
