Grinding Noise - Rear Wheels

Hi All,

After finally fixing the fuel trap issue, my Sedan 2003 is doign a strange noise from the rear axel. I read that many experimented a problem described in a TSB with rear axel and bearings, but I'm not sure I have the same problem.

When I start the car from cold, I don't have any cracking noise issues, after about 5 miles, the rear starts squeaking heavily (like a piece of metal that is thorn apart). It's coming from both sides of the rear wheels, and very disctinctive when I brake from 20 Mph to stop. My buddy was outside listening to the noise and it's coming from both sides. Therefore my question is, for those which had the TSB (ITB005-02) done, did you experiment such problems or was it always grinding (no matter what, hot or cold, brakes applied or not). Also, is it possible that this very distinctive noise is coming from the brakes? (both sides)

Thanks fro the help!

I have a similar problem that happens on the rear driver side only. No noise when the car is cold but after about 20 mins it makes a terribly loud creaking/cracking noise when I bring the car to a stop (it almost sounds like the sound a mechanical donkey would make! lol!). I had the rear bearings changed earlier in the year as well as new pads and rotors and it doesn't seem to go away.... Mechanics cant seem to fix it....

Does the noise happen only when the car is in motion? Are you able to duplicate the noise by pushing up and down on the back of the car when it's parked?

No noise when the car is parked and the suspension is compressed/decompressed. The noise only occurs when slowing the car to a stop from about 20 mph. No noise when doing the same in reverse. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I believe we have the same issue. I get a crunch/clunk from the right rear wheel when coming to a slow stop. Not consistently though. Typically after a decent amount of driving ie:8-10 miles. My noise sounds as though it is rotational with the wheels. I have take the wheels off and taken the brakes apart but notice nothing out of the ordinary.

Yeap, that sounds exactly like what I have. It only happens after the car is warmed up/driven for 10-20 mins. I am taking it into Infiniti again on Friday as they initially thought it was a bent backing plate - which it wasnt. So far nobody can seem to figure this out. I have had it looked at about 5 times and nothing seems to work. I just want to be sure it isnt a serious problem (or doesnt end up being a costly repair if left unaddressed). It sounds to loud to be ignored.

It has to be brake related. Cheap pads? Shims there? Did you use any sort of disk brake quiet?
