transmission/shifter rattle?

Hi all,

I have an 04 6mt. When I am cruising down a blacktop road (concrete is too noisy), I get a tinny rattle sound, not real loud, but loud enoung for me to notice, almost sounds like a pop can rattling. The sound comes from the transmission or the shifter. Anyone have something similar? The dealer said...we lubed a gasket...I know that sounds like shxx. The sound is still there. Hoping someone else has some thoughts.

tx.

I took my car in for a similar problem, they tried fixing it a few times and then they finally got me a new shifter assembly (which they f*cked up as well).

I am pretty sure it is. All my cars have done it.

Have you taken apart your shifter before? I put in a short shifter and a Nismo shift ****, and now it makes a similar sound. It's the little metal ring in my case, and I've dampened it by putting electric tape around the shifter so it doesn't contact metal, but it still kinda makes sounds because the metal of the shift **** is touching it now, but is much better... so I'm thinking about just taking the thing out since I can't find out what importance this piece has.

If you're driving, when you are in gear hearing that sound, grip the bottom of your shift **** firmly while slightly pushing down. If the sound goes away or changes, then this is your problem... otherwise, idk...

I haven't replaced the shifter. I will give the pushing down the shifter a try. It is subtle, and what you describe makes sense.

The dealer said they "lubed a gasket"...wtf would that be lol. Now the shifter is firmer, but it makes a slight popping noise when I shift. I am taking the car back on monday, and hoping the noise is there so I can take a tech for a ride. My service engine light came on when I left the dealership too. The joy...I guess at least they vacuumed it, huh?
