With that said, if my 03 got totalled, I'd buy an 05. I like the interior/exterior better plus I can get LSD with the 5AT. It's a no brainer.
Yes, that's my entire point. How can the '03 actually be faster than an '05? The same yes, but faster, no. That's all I am trying to say.

You still drive the same platform. IF you need to get high and might you may want an exclusive car that will prop your ego up and keep it there because if all you got are some gauges you look like an insecure teenager.

If you need to one up people, try a new M5 or Aston or Bugatti has a new monster coming out. Bashing over a guage is ridiculous! All the gauges suck and so does the orange peel all over the place! This is ENTRY lux stop acting like you drive a Rolls and realize most cars now costing 35k are faster, and better equipped inside than any G!
Sorry bud but your barking up the wrong tree. If you research my posts I rarely, if ever, start any sort of flame war or try and put down owners of the same car. This is the first car I have owned that had lighted gauges and feel it is the best interior upgrade to the 05. Not sure why you feel the need to respond to my post since it doesn't appear I offended LuXXXz. Oh, and I could never afford an M5, of course if I had a huge ego I'd lie and say I could. Peace.

In defense of LUXXXZ,

The last '05 loaner I got from Infiniti felt slower than my '03 5AT. Even my wife notice that and she knows nothing about cars. I don't know if it was the gas octane as mentioned earlier. I'm not bashing '05 G35's, thats just how it felt to my wife and I.

Speed is such a subjective experience. My car seems *sloooow* compared to my buddy's SRT4, but I regularly run quicker 1/4's and trap higher(3 to 4mph higher). Also, at least to me, Cheryl's car seems much quicker as well, just driving around town. But it's not(no offense babe).

Some say the 03s feel like they have more torque and the 05s power band is geared higher into the RPMs. It would be interesting if we could set up a drag b/w a stock 03 or 04 vs an 05 with the same mileage and gasoline.

North China or south China? 'Cause south China tea is always more expensive, or at least seems to be. But I've never compared the price without mods.

I've had one '04 loaner. I'll keep my '05, thank you very much. Power was maybe about the same, although I didn't have a chance to really get on the '04. But when I drop mine into 3rd gear at 4500 rpm and floor it, hang on!

As time goes by cars just get better. The 05 is better than the 03-case closed. The same way the 06 and 07 will be better than the 05. Cars generally get better not worse and 280 hp is faster than 260 hp all other things being equal. (yeah I know they are not as the redlines are different.)

Heres my review,

Suspension:
First off i wanted to say the 05 handles like crap(also non-sport), it has alot of body roll, the car only has 6300k miles on it and just isnt as smooth as it should be, the brakes are not as sensitive (good thing) but they just dont feel as strong as my 03. My 03 is smoother on the highway, it sticks to the road, but this 05 feels like im gonna spin out of every turn.

Exterior:
the new bumpers and painted sides and back look alot nicer then stock 03/04 body, but i have the nismo kit on it w/ spoiler, and i definitely like that better then the 05 body, i like the 05 rear lights, but there's too many cars out that resemble the rear of the 05s lights, and the 03/04 look unique

Interior:
its definitely a step up, from my 03, but my 03 looks more sporty, and the 05 looks like a classy car from the interior that doesnt seem to have any performace. the top where the clock is, definitely has my 03 beat, the shifter looks alot better then my disgusting 03s ( i dont know what infiniti was thinking) the seats arent as supportive as the 03s and the gauges are alot harder to read (the MPH),
one other thing i dont understand about the 05 when you have the heat on and you press the recirculation button the a/c goes on and cant be turned off. whats up with that?
overall the interior is a step up toward the more classier direction

Performance:
i dont know how Infiniti got 280hp and 270lb tq, theres no way in hell this 05 stock for stock is faster then my 03( 265hp & 265lb Tq, and i know its underrated but still), i raced my friend in his 05 maxima with both cars (03 & 05) from a light (1/4mile) 4 times each car, and my 03 smoked him 3 out of the 4 runs, and the 05 lost 4 out of 4

Overall ill stick with my 03
performance and looks and the ride is alot better, the only thing the 05 has my 03 beat on is interior, im happy with my car, and enjoy the G i think its definitely the best bang for buck performer
thats my 2cents
You just said what i had to say when I got 05 G35 auto non-sport.
Completely agree with you.
But again i have the aero and sport (standart with 6MT). 05 6MTs might be different story, never drove them so....

280 hp is faster than 260 hp all other things being equal
All other things are not equal. The additional luxury improvements are heavy. 280 peak horsepower compared to 260 peak is meaningless as well. What's the area under a curve before you get to the peak is what many find interesting.

Note the tech section where the MREV mod is being thoroughly debated. The 05 motor in 298 hp form may now have the chance to get more power well before redline and bring back that 03-04 style low end grunt while losing power at the top of the curve at peak. Torque makes you get there faster, and people will seemingly pay the inventor $500-$600 to make thier peak drop, go figure.

I'd say the 05 should be slightly faster and probably is - it's just never been shown in any meaningful comparison that it is faster. Like DaveB has pointed out, the trap speed is what matters and the 6MT from 03 was 100 or 101 at 13.9 or so in a magazine.

Interestingly, the Avalon, IS, most Chrysler and Dodge v-8's and faster now than all G's. Handling and Z like character are why I got the G in 03 and those things get lost with more weight and plush surroundings. My wife hates my car for being harder edged after modding and harder riding than her SUV. She hated the interior for being harsh and cold and low grade compared to our old Passat. I keep telling her it's not a luxury car and am thankful she doen't want to drive it! The mainstream edge the car has now is undesirable IMO, where it once had a clear non luxury and somewhat bare boned sport only attitude in 03. You could get stripped 03 for 27K. No one was fooled then into thinking they were buying an audi or a caddilac.
