The only thing I have not reinstalled is the stock air intake tube and would like to know if you are using the ztube.

And my only "mod" is K&N airfilter, and it was pinging prior to its install.

I just reinstalled my stock intake. I wish I had paid more attention to what teh engine was doing prior to the install of each.

Are you guys hearing the ping/knock under light throttle and under heavy throttle.

Yeah, I pretty much hear it whenever. It is most noticeable if you've been driving gently and then you press the throttle about half way down. It does'nt matter what rpms or gear you're in.

Yep sounds familiar. If I am motoring along with traffic and throttle up I can hear the knock. It is easily reproduced too.

Like you I am not looking to replace the car after it is paid off. I'd like to sit on my money for a while after I get the note back and am giving serious consideration to scheduling a drop off soon.

I am sure I will get the usual rounds of... ok we fixed it so come pick it up and would much rather get all that out of the way sooner rather than later.

I have the same issue at 12,000 miles. It just started over the last few days (weather has started to get cold-below 60). If I accelerate and then let of the gas, the noise is apparent. The car is at the dealer now. We'll see what they say. Advisor mentioned doing an oil consumption test. I'll need to stop in every 1K to 1.5K to check the level. BTW car is completly stock so far.

This is not the first time on this car. I bought it used with 7,900 miles. As this is the first time in for service, I asked the advisor to pull the history. Previous owner had it in for the same noise at 5,900. Not sure how the judge though. They also had to replace the clutch at 7,800. It think they traded in for an automatic.

I'm beginning to think this is more of a fuel delivery issue than anything since pinging should be reduced by cooler weather, not enhanced by it. I just wish they would release an ecm update!

I just started a separate thread to get a sample list of everyone affected by this pinging issue.

https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...03#post1485903

add your name to the list if you are affected

I can't recall; does the revup have a higher capacity fuel pump?

Yeah I was hoping the cooler weather would have helped but it seems to have only exacerbated it.

Did they replace the MAF? Or even try to clean it? If they have pinned it down to it running lean (which I'd agree with from the plug color and with the colder plugs helping), then they need to run the maf and observe the voltages put out vs air amount. If that's okay then they need to check the fuel pressure to verify it's up to spec.

Foo G, have you run the ign timing on the scan tool? Is there a sensor for fuel pressure? Might not be.

hahahahah

yeah, they replaced the MAF (it was marginal) and the replaced one of the O2 sensors (which was marginal). They tested everything else, cleaned the plugs, did and upper intake cleaning, STILL PINGING!!! They have had the car for two weeks now with no resolution. They said that they have tested it and indeed it is still running lean. All fuel pressures and everything else is working correctly and within spec. They tested some of the other cars on the lot today and they are all the same, this is an ecm issue!!!

I have tweaked the ign timing back and up to no avail. Have not looked for fule pressure sensor but I'll look tonight.
