How do I set the seat memory?

This may sound like a stupid question, but after reading the manual through countless times and many failed attempts by me and a friend, I can't get the seat memory to work. The directions are so vague and clusterf$%cked with the ***-English translation that I must be missing something. Can someone give me an english rundown?

Are we talking about the same manual? I don't see anything vague here...

one thing that screwed me up was the parking brake. I have the auto, but you still have to set the park brake. When i looked closer at the manual, it actualy does tell you to set it, even for an auto car. (This was on an 06)
So try and set yer parking brake.

Yeah set your parking break and a put in park and whatnot. Then get your seat and stuff into the position you like. Then hold down the set button for maybe 5 seconds. Then press 1 or 2 to save it.

Every manual tells you to set the parking brake for every model of car.. Its a liability issue,,

Just make sure it is in park & it will work fine. I have never set my brake in the 2 years I owned my G. I have 2 presets, one for around town & one for highway (more laid back position). I assume the second preset should be for my wife, but she's not allowed to drive my car.

Actually - more importantly - make sure that the seat switch is turned on to "Auto", not set to "Manual" "Cancel" or "Off". That gets me everytime!

Very true! My switch is always set to off after a detailer returns my car. Also happened the one time I valet parked.

I dont think they are telling you that for the lawyers sake only. Mine would not record the seat memory until the park brake was set. It was the only thing i did different.

Of course it was the only time i ever used the crappy step on brake. I had completely forgot about it and drove about 150 feet to the next stop light with it engaged before i realized it was on.

you don't need the parking brake on to set the memory seats. you can also set the memory seats to the 2 seperate intelligent keys.

Here are the relevant pages from '05 /'06, including how to link the i-key. Note that the parking brake is needed only if you have a manual transmission. 5AT needs to be in park.
