Why new threads are cool

I share everyone's frustration with the noob or other moron who asks a question that has been discussed time and time again. However..... I will also say that this forum is getting less interesting.

This post is in response to nothing particular; I am just sharing thoughts. As you can see from my member date and post count, I don't post every little thing that springs into my mind.

Maybe we could all be a little more responsive (and I mean responsive, not simply accepting) to old questions. Sure, ¼ mile times have been discussed routinely. And we all talk about the 2003 and 04 times, and posts, that date back to, well, 2003 and 2004. A new guy with a 2006 6MT wants to talk about 0-60 times? We'll maybe we all should let them.

… Unless we’d rather correct people’s spelling and grammar?

I would appreciate new input on squeaks, the key fob, keeping wheels clean etc. Otherwise we may limit new ideas and input, or at least not slapping people on the wrist for asking a question that was once asked and answered in April 2004. Remember, just because you read a post, that does not mean you have to reply to it.

Dan

I agree.

I must say I'm getting board with constant bickering about squeaks and rattles (yes, ALL G year models have a history of rattles), how to fit large rims, what kind of offset to get, what intake is best, 87 vs 91 octane, etc. It's boring. With most of the other sites I belong to, we have very detailed discussions, search for new modification ideas, what works/doesn't and why, driving techniques, etc. On this site we don't get a lot of this and I think it's reflective of the member base as a whole and there's not much we can do about it. The most likely reason is the typical G owner could car less about laminar flow dynamics of an intake tract, the correct hand position to hold a shifter for each gear change, understanding and calculating ideal gearing for acceleration, understanding that power under the curve is the key to going fast and not peak power, etc.

Everyday I hope for a great post that will bring about a good and informative discussion. Unfortunately that's a rarity around here.

I think you missed mrdwaters point DaveB.
No offense but why bother coming to this forum if you are ultimately not satisfied with the content? Maybe I am missing your point?

I for one appreciate mrdwaters opinion and give him credit for speaking his mind on how he feels. Being as we all have opinions, I don't think we can expect people to not tell the "newbies" to use the "freakin search" option as much as we can not expect the "newbies" to not re-post topics that have been covered numerous amounts of times.

Some people take things to seriously...some have all the patience in the world..some just like to get a rise out of people..some just don't know what the hell they are talking about (like me)

Me, I just read and post as I feel like it. Most of the times I just post nonsense and try to get a smile or two. You know, kind of like the nonsense I am posting right here. Why, you ask?....because I can.

Great post Dan. I like you, post very little but read quite a bit. I come here to learn and you can't do that when your lips are movin'.

I think that there are a lot of people like you and me on this board. I understand why a noob gets shouted down when they add something that is deemed unneccessary or stupid. What I don't understand is when a veteran attacks for the sport of it, nothing is said.

I for one have no use for jousting with someone behind a computer monitor. My experience with sites like Pelican is that when the tone of the experienced crowd is accepting it encourages participation.

How is it you don't understand when you're one of the people that doesn't say anything?

Because this is the best G35 site out there. Things will improve as more and more people buy these cars, especially the crowd that picks up used G35s. I've invested money in this site in hopes for the best

The way I see things is that people are going to post the same thing over and over again regardless it's a car forum. Do you really think you are going to see a new exciting post with a car that has been around since 2002? After a while it all gets old anyway. Then consider that we only have 4 sticky treads that are mostly currupt. The best way to change things is to find a solution the search function is one solution but not as practical as it could be. I think there should be more sticky in each appropriate tread (wheel offsets in the Tech area, tread on lowering springs in the tech area with pictures of all the different opts on sedans/coupes, etc... Maybe this will clear up some of the melodrama.
