I think the carbon filters are supposed to filter smells and odors before they get into the cabin. I asked about it when I changed my filter. It was twice the price of the non-carbon filter ($80+ as opposed to 40+). Hell!!! I don't have $40 worth of stink coming into my car. Non-carbon for me!

Not sure on the G, but on my 03 Alti is was behind the glovebox and very easy to do yourself. Can anyone else chime in on the location?
