80w90 is old school... 75w90 wasn't available in the earlier days and is better for cold temp performance. If you check out (for example) amsoil's website, they state that their 75w90 gear lubes outperform the 80w90 gear lubes and can be used instead.

I think we're in agreement here. 80/90 is what Nissan calls for although 75/90 should work fine.
