Good idea. I'll try it over the weekend to see if my MPG increases.

If you think it's rich now, wait and see what a reset will do Think about it for a second, reseting the ECU results in an ECU that must revert back to a safe preset fuel map. This safe fuel map will be very rich because Nissan doesn't want you to blow the engine if you were driving in an oxygen rich/dense environment. As you continue to drive, the ECU will start adjusting the A/F ratios and timing to be more aggressive and match the conditions the engine is run in. At WOT there will be very little difference between a reset ECU and one that is not. Part throttle wise though, there will be a noticable difference. I notice about a 10-15% drop in MPGs and boggy part-throttle acceleration after an ECU reset. My 96 Maxima with the 3.0 VQ did the same exact thing.

IMHO, I would reset the ECU. It might be acting a little funny.
I see what you're saying, but in his case, the car is supposedly running really rich. He ain't gonna blow anything up. Rich doesn't blow up motors. Lean conditions take care of that.

Ok and what data do you have backing this? NONE!

I gain MPG when I reset my ecu. And everyone else I know gains 1-2 mpg.

A ECU reset will get rid of any parameters the ECU learned that may be causing your rich issue. Just RESET it and be done with it. Either way it won't hurt.

Blowing up a engine was a example not related to his problem.

Well, for the hell of it I'll reset it over the weekend and put a end to this debate. I have been resetting my trip meter at each fill so I'll log what I get for this current tank and post what I get for the next tank with a reset ECU. It will probably be in a week.

Later...

My data is what I see on a data logger and my calculated mpgs.

Filled up with exactly 18 gallons after work. I went 287 miles, roughly 16 miles per gallon. I'll reset the trip meter tonight, do a battery disconnect and see what the next tank gives me.

Later.

How can this be!!!! The ECU reset didn't improve gas mileage? Impossible
