Oh, one last thing JCV, where do you un plug that fuse...can a toggle swithc be installed for easy on and off...I am wondering if the Hanis Bog these cars exhibit off the line is not from the 5AT, but rather, from the Timing and or the TCS still being involved...With some friggen wheel spin and a better launch low 14's should be able to be done just like the 6MTs do.

Yes, the TCS does cause some of the bog. The TCS fuse is in the left side kick panel along with ABS (oops no brake lights). A toggle has been done by others, search my350z.com, FA or here- can't remember but it's probably my350z.
Also with big wheels and tires, it's not just the wieght but inertial mass -much bigger issue than you think. Light weight 17" are better than same weight 18"- rotational moments don't you know.

I live in Las Vegas, 110 degrees. Both times I have raced it was 12:00 at night so it was quit a bit colder but my times go as: Auto=14.7, Manumatic=15.3. VDC off. Stock, no mods. Not bad considering the weather. Take off is at .72.

The best I have so far is a 14.7. I live in kansas city ks and that was about a low 70s high 60s day at the track. I launch at 2700 and leave the manu. in 2 because almost everytime shifting out of first I would hit the rev limiter slowing me down. Oh yeah I am completely stock.

Braunson, What was your exact time and MPH? Glad to see you are at least in the 14.7s.
shortchaz, Nice, your MPH is awesome, and your time is low enough into the 14.7 zone that 14.6s are possible.
THE BAD NEWS HERE IS ALL OF YOU GUYS...ME INCLUDED...ARE NO WHERE NEAR THE 14.52 I RIPPED IN MY WIFE'S MAX ON A 88+/- F day...I just don't get it.

I'm guessing there was little or no wheelspin in the max that run? Also I should be getting lower now since our track was resurfaced and rubber has been layed down. That run was before the resurface if I remember right.

I'm waiting for the weather to cool off before I make my maiden voyage down the 1/4 mile. I'll be very happy with a low 14.0-14.2, but my goal will be to dip into the 13's in stock trim.

Not really, the Max ran 6 or 7 times, and every run was a 14.6 with that one 14.52 and my brothers first run ever which was a 14.7, which he followed right up with a 14.6
We launched at 1500 or so and the tires spun a bit...but then hooked right up...torque steer was a bitch to tame even with two hands on the wheel.
I honestly cannot believe more people are not making waves at this subject. I mean a $23+K Maxima SE is killing my loaded $38K rear wheel drive, more powerful G35...and no one else is fairing much better in the 5AT realm anyway.
Even if we figure out how to get the times down, there seems to be an issue with how this car launches vs the Maxima/Altima.

I not really worried since this is the first AT car I have taken down the strip. I am still trying to figure out the best way to launch the car and need to get a good dyno to figure out the right shift points(even though that will be kinda hard in an AT).

14.4 @ 99 mph at 1700 ft altitude. lots of potential there. My 60' times were 2.3-2.4 due to driver inability/lack of traction.
I consistently hit 98-99 mph trap speeds. Now I have learned to drive this thing, I will post much better times on September 15 after i go to the track then

wow. 99mph trap speed eh? What mods do you have? You should try a pair of nitto 555Rs to cure the traction problem.

ShortChaz isn't telling you guys everything. He doesn't track prep his G35 auto at all. The spare, jack, no tire adjustments, and lots of gas are in the car when he races. He's also a big guy standing at 6' 9" and probably 260lbs. Put my 180lb butt in there with some track prep and I'll run 14.5s in it. Our track has been resurfaced, but when he was running out there last time, the track was "green". We couldn't get traction for anything. I'm certain he could have gotten a 14.5 and I could have gotten a 14.2 if we could hook up. I went to our track recently, in 100 degree temps no less, and I was able to pull a 14.61@95mph in my Maxipad running my 17s and all the gear in the car. Traction is a lot better so I'm certain he'll pull some better times.
As for the 2k2 Maxima out accelerating the G35 auto. It makes sense to me because the G35 weighs about 3400lb whereas the Maxima weighs 3250lbs. Both cars make about the same amount of wtq with the G35 edging out the Max in whp by a small margin. The G35 autos saving grace is it's more ideal 5 gears. From a stop, the G35 auto seems to bog a lot of easier whereas the Maxima plants and goes. From a roll the Maxima gets owned, but at the 1/4 mile, the Maxima might have the edge until you guys figure out a way to launch the autos harder. The reason the Maxima seems to clip off hard shifts is because it's a traversely mounted engine that rocks horribly in it's mounts. You get that thud on every shift which feels like the car is slamming hard into gears. The thud will give the sense of really hauling butt.

Awesome Post...ver informative and it made a lot of sense...glad to hear someone corroborate what I am feeling when driving the Maxima SE...

How do g35x's do? is it easier to launch an AWD vehical?
(i dont have a G35 yet, but soon when i do it will be an X, and im just curious. Someday I'd like to have an APS TT on an X, if thats ever possible)
