If your reffering to 1/4 times I know a few members are knocking on 13's with stock sedans.

We should have a thread that's pinned just for quarter mile times. Maxima.org does it, and it's nice to see what others are doing. Ar those super low times with 6MTs or 5ATs?

I just went back to New England Dragway with my CAI and the 245/45 Kumhos on the back...I remounted the lighter stock tires/rims up front and all I coudl muster were a bunch of 15.0s and two 14.9s so I was 1 tenth slower than what my tag lists from my initial run. This time I had nothing for gas and the car was fully broken in too...but it was 91 F and very Humid...(Does anyone know how much high humidity actually negatively affects power?).

I also got the 14.9s from manually shifting my 5AT this time as opposed to last time when I just left it in auto or 4 when I ran the low 14.8s.

Hopefully the cool fall will show me some times closer to my wife's car that supposedly is slower than a G35, but for now rules the roost as far as 4 door sedans go!

bosssho, I don't think the G sedan is tire limited since the TC is hard to shut off. The bigger tires probably hurt rather than help -can't build rpm quickly. Did you pull the fuse on the TC/ABS? The heat doesn't help either and humidity dilutes the amount of air (oxygen) also. Your wife's Max probably would have been even worse.

Back on the thread subject, a few months ago, someone in Sacramento was getting 14.2 -14.3 with a stock 5AT sedan and posted to this forum. Working into the converter to let it slip and build to near 3,000 rpm at launch (it's about a 2.5k stall). Sorry can't remember the name.

I think you're right on regarding the stock tires/rims not hindering the G for traction out of the hole...I would definitely go back to all four being the stockers next time up.

If I read you right on the spool up into the converter thing, I think I did that once...I actually thought, with my left foot on the brake and my right feathering up the rpms that my rear tires actually broke loose while standing still (so in effect I was doing a brake stand at the line) I don't even know for sure b/c of the hopped up camaro behind me doing a big burnout, but the other thing is I don't even know if you are allowed to be spinning the tires at the line legally in a race while staged, and furthermore, it took forever to get that car set up like that so if I were actually racing someone (this was a one at a time test and tune day) I would never have the time to do that.

I did notice that the rpms cut out at like 2500 or so which sucks b/c Nissan really retards the timing off the line (with or with out the TCS on/off) and these Gs take some serious seconds to get up into their sweet spot...my 60' times sucked at (2.3+) all day which is where I was losing all my time. My 14.8 runs the first time out were netting me 2.2s and my wife's Max was pulling 2.1s.

The fun part of the day was getting to drive my buddy's brand new Porsche 911 Turbo into the 12's lol

Bossman we gotta get you some better times for that G signature. Try the ecu reset - it will impact more than just about any mod or wheel setup I would think. I cant wait for an ecu upgrade from someone.

NIce driving the german marquis isn't it. Something about them tinkering with that 911 for all those years. It may be the best car ever - non turbo is the way to go though...Who can take a car 190?

 

My fastest so far has been a 14.6 in the hot Houston heat. That was stock with a lighter set of wheels/tires. Just had some mods done, but haven't been to the track yet to test them out. I'll post the new times as soon as I head back to the track.

I have no clue. There are so many variables involved. Heat, humidity, altitude, shifting, your ECU. Be sure and make a note of all of these things so you can tell us.

We have had the 911 at 172 on the digital speedo...closed road!

I forgot to mention that I had the battery unplugged for about 17 hrs from the day b/f I raced....and all I did was drive in manual mode in 3rd or 4th to keep the rpms up and as to not let the car wuss out at all...I am hoping it was the heat and humidity...DO WE HAVE ANY CALCULUS WIZZES ON HERE THAT CAN TELL ME EFFECTIVELY AND ACCURATELY HOW MUCH EACH DEGREE AND % OF HUMIDITY ACTUALLY AFFECTS A CAR'S HP OUTPUT IN REGARDS TO THE 1/4 MI?

When I first got this car my one area of concern was that the 5AT does not shift as violently (meaning, it doesn't throw you back in your seat as much) as the 02-03 Maxima 4AT does...and so far, this has been the biggest killer I feel in my 1/4 mi experiences.

When I ran my wife's car it was in the high 80s outside, but not that humid...My Mustang is a whole other story...if I ever get the right CAM/Exhaust and launch combo for maximized traction with low end thrust it will be a mid to high 12 second run...

bosssho, you sure can spin the tires at the line- no rules against this, just don't move through the lights! This was why they invented line lock switches. The drop at 2500 was you hitting the stall speed of the converter, not the computer. Idea is to get here on the last yellow while slipping the brake (like slipping a clutch). Hopefully you'll run up rpm just as you hit green. Remember to stage as shallow as possible with the AT car.Practice, practice makes perfect.

The TCS is still active even though you turned off the VDC! Byt eh way, at the temp/humidity you ran at you probably were down by 3% on hp,

So if my CAI even gave me 5 HP, and the CAR is putting 265 BHP to the Crank and with a 17% to the rear wheels we are talking 220 HP to the wheels which when you take out the 3% loss for weather is only a mere 6.59% HP which translates to less than 1 10th lost on the 1/4 mi which means either the extra 18lbs of tires (though I made up for that in way less fuel) was not offset by the ECU reset and the CAI did Scata (Greek for Sh**T) at the track...

HMMMMM back to square one with this car at the track...

ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE CARE TO HELP IN GETTING BETTER 1/4 MI TIMES?

Lead Foot what did you launch at for RPM?

Did you manually shift or did you leave it in a gear or simply in auto?

Did you screw with the tire pressure (F or R) at all?

Nice time, but it still falls short of the Maxima times which I would really like us all to be besting some how!
