Status:Stillen cat-back G35 Sedan Exhaust

Hi Guys,

First of all - Yes, it will be made! I have received a number of messages from people thinking that it's just a rumor, it's not - thanks to G35 Sedan owner and enthusiast Dave O. who has been grinding us to make this system since day one:-)

Here's the news as of today....

Construction: True dual path mandrel bent cat back (2.5") pipe design. T-304 stainless steel .
The current prototype design has a single muffler that is dual (piping) in / dual (3" tips) out.

Cost: TBA. The cost is usually released a couple of weeks prior to completion of the first production run.

Availability: ETA Min. 30 days/Max. 60 days. This is still only a guesstimate because of a lot of variables with production scheduling.

Horsepower: Excellent. Kick ***. Surprising. These are a few of the words that R&D were using. I have not been told the exact results that will be the advertised HP for the system that's going into production, but I think it's safe to say that at least 15 HP at the wheels (or about 20 flywheel HP) will be had with this system.

Sound: I have heard the test system here and I think it has "tolerable personality" as do the other 3.5 systems that we have made. Of course, everyone has different ear. I'm sure that one of the sedan owners with the new system reserved will make a sound clip or video for all to review.

Now, if you like you can reserve a system from the first production run. There no payment required to do this. I'll contact you when your exhaust is ready and we have a sale price. Please contact me directly (if you don't already have a contact here) since I'm on a commission based salary:-)

Also, let me know if any of you need a catalog. Just send me your name/address details to adam@stillen.com

I hope this helped everyone. I'll let you know if anything new comes up.

Cheers,

Adam Hume

Man those 30-60 days never come. I called to inquire about 30 days ago and was told 30 days will be ready. At this rate it will be Christmas.. umh. can probably tell me wife that it's my christmas present tho it probably won't fit under the tree.

BTW Adam, if you got it I am getting one.. you got 45 days to deliver else I will go with the Crawford Plenum instead I wonder which is more bang for the bucks.

Re: Status:Stillen cat-back G35 Sedan Exhaust

Status of Stillen G35 Sedan's dual catback exhaust system as of this morning. The latest version of the system is now installed on their marketing manager's sedan (there are two G35 Sedan owners at Stillen). Fine tuning for the "right" balance of exhaust note and performance continues. Rumor has it that the system should be available by late September or so.

While that really wasn't what I wanted to hear, I do appreciate the fact that Stillen is taking the time to get the Sedan's system "right". I'm willing to wait a little longer even though I'm not normally a patient person.

Re: Status:Stillen cat-back G35 Sedan Exhaust

I have already emailed you to reserve one and I got my stillen parts guide. I just want to be sure... Is this a dual exaust? ie G35 coupe like exaust? Or is it a single muffler with two outputs like the stock sedan exaust? I just want to clear this up

nismo 4090

It is a single muffler dual in dual out. So, pretty much lke the stock exhaust looks-wise.

nismo4090,

If you'll check out the Sedan Owners - Catback Exhaust Systems thread on Tech & Mods section you'll can read the history of the Stillen dual catback exhaust system from essentially day one. There's also two pictures of the early prototype system on a test sedan.

Please note that I also wanted two separate mufflers, one on each side of the car. Unfortunately, the fuel overflow system is located where the second muffler would be located. The issues related to moving this system were cost prohibitive. So were stuck with a muffler similiar to that found on Borla's 350Z true dual exhaust system.

Rumble,

The early prototype system did well over 15 RWHP on the dyno. We'll have to wait for the commercial system's number. With my auto trans, I'll take low and mid range torque as well as a HP increase.

Re: Status:Stillen cat-back G35 Sedan Exhaust

One last question, I know that this sounds dumb. I know that you can have one muffler and have 2 exaust outlets. So will this exaust look just like Sedans Exaust now with just a bigger muffler? or Will it have have at least the look of a dual exaust ie G35 coupe. Sorry for being/ sounding dumb

Please check out the pictures on the Tech & Mods. That should answer your question.

(I've been pushing for a "stealthy" stock looking dual outlet tips. The stock muffler's tip diameter is 3.150" for each one.)

nismo4090,

OK.

While I'm not 100% sure, I believe the commercial version will have one muffler canister mounted in the stock location. There's an extremely small chance there could be two smaller mufflers in the stock location. Either way, I'm real sure the system will look reasonably stock from the back end.

I've pushed from day one for a system that wasn't "ricy". I talked with several other Sedan owners and the consensus was a "stealthy" looking system that is reasonably unobtrusive... until you get into the throttle.

Re: Status:Stillen cat-back G35 Sedan Exhaust

Adam,

I'd like to reserve one based on the fact that you ask for no $ up front and if I change my mind, Im not bound to buying one. Check the PM i sent you for my info. I have your intake on, a 350Z duct, grounding kit and kept head to head with a 2001 Camaro SS today off the line!!! The extra 15 RWHP would have put me up front!!! I've waited to do my exhaust for reasons like this becasue nothing out there was up to my satisfaction yet. Closest was the HKS dual tip muffler, but it's not a CAT back. The G35 exhaust needs to loose some weight. How much lighter will Stillen's be than the stock pipes and muffler? Also, what about the CAT and the pre-muffler? How does your system change it to a dual line without having to install another CAT and pre?

'03.5 G35 BS Sedan (I love that acronym!)
Stillen Intake, 350Z duct
Hyper-Ground Kit
Lowered!
Bulbs all around!
Splash Guards - Aero
Need Exhaust, Twin Turbo or NOS!

Re: Status:Stillen cat-back G35 Sedan Exhaust

15 or so HP sounds great, but I do not want to give up any torque. The stock systems have a valve that creates backpressure at lower RPMs to increase torque. Using a aftermarket system with better flow characteristics and with no valve can increase HP, but decrease torque. Has anybody asked Stillen or other similar aftermarket manufactures this question? Better yet, has anybody dynoed?
