Angry Need to get INTO the console

Ok I will admit I didn't search on this but I am really mad about it so I am trying not to think about it any more than absolutely necessary!

The other day Trey asked me to bring him his poker chips that he had forgotten to pick up that morning and they were playing poker after work. Trying to be nice I agreed to bring them to him. As I am getting into the car and putting the big @$$ case in the passenger seat(while getting into the car) I slipped a little. The case BUMPED not hit the console but the thing weighs so much that a bump is a big deal. Anyway, it hit the seat heater button on the passenger side and PUSHED IT INTO THE CONSOLE! It is still working but it is now cockeyed and flush with the console. Needless to say I was more than just a little bit pissed about this happening and now I just want it fixed so I don't get mad *every* time I get in my car.

PLEASE, PLEASE if you know how to get the console opened up share the info!!! I need to see if I can push this thing back up where it should go.

Cheryl, do you know anyone at your dealer who could help? I bet it's tricky getting the console top off. I seem to recall a thread about that at one time, but damned if I can find it, I was going to take the console apart on my '04, but when I asked the tech at the dealer about it, he did it for me.

No need to take it to the dealer. That's easy to fix. Here is the DIY link.

Goodluck!

Tom, you have no idea how much I try to avoid going to the dealership here. Those guys drive me up the freakin' wall! I started out being sweet and meek/mild so they treated me like I had no idea what was going on. I moved on to being nice but firm in my confidence so they just sorta blew me off. I have resorted to just being a "little" short with them and they still haven't changed much. The next step is all out b!tch mode and I try to reserve that for the big problems (like if they EVER wash my car again!).

Reggie, thanks bunches. I will be looking into all that tomorrow if I can dodge the rain. I think from reading that link that it shouldn't take very long AT ALL.

Sorry Cheryl, I didn't realize it was that bad! I am pretty happy with my dealer, when I bought my first G, the service guy wasn't too great, but they have improved immensely IMO, but I will agree on the wash, right now anyway, they have a terrible guy.

Not the most recent time that we took it in but the time before that I had told them NOT to wash the car. They did anyway. They f'd it up SO much with swirl marks, etc that it cost me $110 with my "carwash guy" giving me a nice discount to have it compound rubbed, rewaxed and buffed out. If they EVER wash that car again I will be in there screaming for my $200 for the regular price of having it redone. Not to mention it took the guy ALL day on a Saturday to get it fixed. He's a great guy though and they do AWESOME work.

My dealer had a really good detail guy for a while, my car got washed by mistake, but I didn't complain because he did a really good job, he didn't last long, even the loaners were clean when he was there, now they're pretty disgusting! I actually took my car to the car wash this week, a real rarity for me, because it was too cold, they did a pretty decent job, I just detailed it when I got home to get all the water streaks dry, even the glass was clean, I asked them not to do the interior, it wasn't cold enough to stop me from doing that myself!

Oh, and speaking of consoles, anyone here know how to stop the creaking in the '05? Only does it on entry when I lean on it, quiet the rest of the time.

Please don't call me buddy. You never cease in trying to irritate me so why should I consider you a buddy?

Getting into the center console is super easy. Obviously Reggie gave you the DIY link but just to give you some reinforcement, the only remotely hard part is removing the shift ***, after that the console piece just pops right off, just slip your fingers under each side and lift up. In fact becasue you MAY only need to get under a little bit you can probably work it without taking the shift *** off but you will only have a few inches clearance to get your hand under there and fiddle around.

Ohhh, I didn't know dealer carwashes were bad... Hmm..maybe that's why I have so many swirl marks. I usually try to wash my car by myself but the dealer has washed it two times already. I have a black/black G so the swirl marks are fairly visible. How did your carwash guy manage to remove those slight imperfections? Can I do it myself somehow? Thanks!

Edit: Also, how do the swirl marks appear in the first place anyways, so I can avoid doing this myself as well! Thanks!

You have to be really careful with black, dark blue, and red. If they don't wash the car with a clean cloth, maybe they even use a sponge, a no-no, or wipe it with some dirt still on the paint, it can leave swirl marks. Having owned a few dark burgundy vehicles, I found swirl marks would appear out of nowhere sometimes. I use microfiber to dry my car, the Big Blue Towel works great! Sometimes just a good wax job will make them less obvious.

First off I am not saying that all dealer carwashes are bad BUT around here they just have some guys running them through as quickly as possible and basically just giving them a fair once over.

Second, I don't know what Rodney did exactly. I don't ask him to explain himself because IMHO he is THE MAN when it comes to car detailing. He just told me that he was going to have to compound it and then rewax it get them out. I assume he meant rubbing compound but that is just my guess. I am SURE that some of the guys in the detailing section on here can tell you how to get them out if you have them.

As for how they get there - it was put to me that if they use a chemical of some kind like a degreaser or something it will strip the wax and cause swirl marks to come from the wash itself OR they didn't get it all the way clean and the fact that there was still dirt on the car while they were wiping and so forth will cause the swirl marks. In my case he said it was obvious that a chemical of some kind had been used on the car because ALL of the wax was GONE - I mean my car looked like ****! Another thing he said is that many of the "drive through" car washes use a chemical based soap to make it clean better and they are the usual culprit. I don't use those anyway but just an FYI.

Ohhh, interesting. Yeah, the part I hate most about washing my car is the drying part. I don't know what to use to dry my car...I have the small yellow microfiber towels you can get at Costco but those seem to leave small hairs if they're used to dry wet surfaces, so I don't use them and have to use some not -so-absorbant 100% cotton towels. Where do you get this Big Blue Towel . (How many coats of wax do you put on at once?)

Thanks for the info! I'm pretty sure the swirls came from my dealer wash also because I wash my car pretty carefully and didn't notice any of those swirl marks before, but while I was washing my car another time, I noticed swirl marks so it must have been them! I guess I'll go hunting for swirl-removing methods now.
