gfiniti,

Good to hear all is well with your G and you are satisfied with your purchase. So far the G is still at the top of my short list.

Re: List your top 3 pros and top 3 cons.

Interesting thread...

Pro's: Power, Looks, and Handling
Con's: Gas, Stereo, and Wheels

Couple of things worth mentioning....This is my first "real" car. I had an accord with 200k and finally had to buy a new car. I researched for 9 months before I made my decision and I LOVE MY G. I was it once a week and plan to wax it once a month...or until I get my first ding and then...who knows....

Re: List your top 3 pros and top 3 cons.

pros
1 - good handling and acceleration
2 - looks
3 - great daily driver, room for four, fun to wind out on an open road, but also can sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic with the AC running and 95 degrees outside
4 - great value for the price
cons
1 - brake dust
2 - can't read the clock at night
3 - brake dust

gfiniti,

An easy fix.

There's a recall on the clock.

Stillen's Metal Matrix brake pads cures break dust problems. (There's several other good aftermaket pads.)

Wasn't aware of the TSB for the clock. Appreciate the tip. Off to the dealer next week.

Re: List your top 3 pros and top 3 cons.

marvinclt,

Wow! Researched for nine months. I thought I was obsessive and I've only been looking for a few weeks. I'd be curious to know what other autos you looked at before getting the G. And what was/were the final, determining factor(s) that made you drive off with a G35 sedan? Thanks for the interest in the thread! I look forward to your response.

Only 9 months, eh? Amateur.

Granted, finances were my reason for searching for such a long time...

Re: List your top 3 pros and top 3 cons.

Oh man, I wish I'd saved my comparo chart on all the cars I looked at... I made an Excel sheet with: power, handling, looks, price, reliability (from current customers), dealership experience, etc. for all of the cars I looked at. The long list was ( I think ):

X-type
S60
A4
S4
A6
TL-S
CL-S
ES300
IS300
G35
330xi
C320

As you can see, I ran the gamut... I think that was it... I started looking in February of 2002, and ended up getting my car in May 2003. I'm slightly **** about this stuff Long story short, I knocked them all off the list one-by-one until I had only the G and the 330 left, then it was an issue of a) everyone has a 3-series, b) everyone I know with a 3-series has had it in the shop for an inordinate amount of time, c) price, anyone? d) God, the G just is boooootyful. Slightly biased now, but hey-- whatever

I took mine back to the dealer the week I got the G for the
fix to the clock. They informed me of the recall then.
No problems with the new one.

Re: List your top 3 pros and top 3 cons.

I agree with that. I hear more complaints from owners about the interior of a G35 than any Audi. To me a used A6 seems about as good of deal as a G35. (obviously this depends on options) It seems to me as though there is no "cheapness" in the A6 line. Which makes me question the G35 as far as overall quality goes.

Re: List your top 3 pros and top 3 cons.

In three months of ownership, no problems with rattles or other quality or maintenance issues.
At first I thought the brakes were grabby, but either they wore in or I got used to them because now I really like the feel and secure stopping power even though the fronts need frequent cleaning to keep up the great appearance of the stock rims.

BMWs are great cars, with equal or better handling, but they have nothing at this $30k price point.

Anyway, here's my list:

Pros: Styling, Handling, Price/Performance
Cons: Interior ergonomics (cup holders, switch locations, no telescoping adjustment for steering wheel), brake dust, gas mileage

Re: List your top 3 pros and top 3 cons.

Many of you have mentioned disappointment in the gas mileage you're getting. What kind of mileage can I expect with basically highway driving?

Please keep the pros and cons comin'!

Not many folks have listed quality of construction or workmanship as a pro or a con. Where do you think it belongs?

Thanks for all the valuable feedback! While on a weekend getaway in Chicago, I saw two G35 sedans. Simply a beautiful car!

Re: List your top 3 pros and top 3 cons.

I didn't list quality because I've got no complaints and I wouldn't bother to own a G if quality was an issue...I simply wouldn't tolerate it...That, and I suppose I kind of include quality with the performance/dollar pro...But I'll include Quality as my 4th pro, and nowhere near a con...Hope that helps...

Geo- Isn't the FX35 SWEET?! I love mine almost as much as the G...Your mom's gonna love it...I almost went a totally different route and considered purchasing the Mercedes G500, but I love the FX's potential and its standard qualities...
