ttrank: did you upgrade batteries or alternator? If yes how? do you have 2 batts or just one? did you do any upgrading to the stock electrical other than maybe a pre-built grounding kit ?

My electrical system is stock. I have 0ga wire going to my trunk for my amps and will probably get a 10-15 farad cap to help out but I don't blast on my stereo too much and when I do it is for short intervals. I tried to buy an Optima battery when my last battery died last year but the two I wanted were both back-ordered.

With all the power stuff on the G (heated seats, defrosters, etc) the alternator needs to be pretty robust and should be able to handle some decent power draw. Just don't keep your stereo cranked with all the accessories on at the same time.

I was a custom car audio installer for a few years while I was in school. I did most of the high-end show work for the shop. My stereo is loud but nothing like the 5,000-10,000 watt fiberglass and plexiglas creations I had a few years back that needed high-output alternators and 3-5 batteries. Too much weight for me these days. I am happy with one 12" and ~2,000 watts for the whole car. It is nice and clean but still plenty loud.

bro our alternators sucks *** they are like 110A alternators, this IMO is Nissan's biggest pit fall. even Passats come with ~150A alternators.

You are smart to have run 0ga bet if you'd run (even a flat) 4 you would have issues.

Isn't 10-15 a big freakin cap? you gonna cap your whole system with that? or did you mean 1.0-1.5?

Reall? I figured with a rear window defroster and heated seats the alternator would need more than 110A just to charge the car and run those. A typical rear window defroster pulls 30-40A by itself. Hmmm.

No I meant 10-15F on the cap. Stinger has had caps out that look like small amplifiers that go up to 30F (I believe). It has been a while since I was in the business so I am a little out of the new tec.

Check it out on Cars.com

http://research.cars.com/go/crp/rese...=&aff=national

hopefully that link works but if you scroll down it says right there our alternators are rated at 110A which is pretty ****ing low. I have never used caps but something about them always made me weary because just logically i have figured that the cap in a way puts more stress on a weak alternator. if your wiring is weak than caps are good but if it is a weak alternator than logically the cap will put more stress on it, but I am not sure if this is true

But our alternators do suck and not only that they are very hard to access which makes upgrading them an expensive proposal.

Good to know, thanks.

As for the cap it actually helps put less of a strain on the electrical system. When you stereo hits a big bass note your amplifier puts a big draw on the alternator and battery. A cap works as a buffer and holds a charge for the amp to draw off as it is playing. It also has a more linear charge curve so the demand on the electrical system is smoother. A good example is to look at a car without HID's and a system. Look at how much the headlights dim with and without a cap.

Obviously it is not as good as getting a high-output alternator and a yellow-top Optima but it does help. I have tried high-output alternators and they never last. I rev the **** out of my car and they do not like high rpm's. Maybe with a car that does not rev as high like the G would be easier on one.

Do you have any other daylight shots of that lip? I am still trying to decide if I want to add one to my nismo bumper or not.

honestly, if you slap on that lip, your front cover will be lower than the rest of the vehicle. thats what happened to me and it looks akward. (and now I am buying the Nismo Skirts to match it)

just go to my photobucket page, it should allow you right in: Neal376
