Question 5AT shifter, is it possible to change the ****?

i have an 03.5 sedan, and I HATE the way the shifter looks. if i cant change the ****, i would at least like to see if i can throw a boot on there to cover bare metal, it looks like the whole circle thing comes off, and it has somthing called a shift lock. what the hell is that, does that mean i can take it off and add a boot? anybody....?

The shift lock is an emergency release. If you pull the cap up you can insert your key & the shifter will come out of park.

you can change the ****. just shift into drive and push the silver piece down right around the neck of the shift (you might have to use your nails to get it lose) then there is a little ring that is shaped like a "U" and that should just pop off in the direction of the radio. Then the **** should just pull off. not sure about shift boots.

If you do a search, you'll find pics of the MOMO **** installed on a few 5AT's.

In addition, a few of us have purchased the M35/45 shift ****.
I'm still working on making it work for the O5-
However, do a search as the poster above suggested and you'll find it all.

+1 for MOMO shifter. get it here:

i have had it for a few months, and it's *very* nice. the only bad thing about it is mounting it centered is a bit of a PIA - it takes a few tries to get it perfect.
