Problem with the window going up and down.

My passenger side window is giving me a problem this past week. Whenever I press the auto button it goes all the way up, but comes down again half way. But if I do it manualy it works perfect, anyone have any idea why this will happen.

I had that problem with my wifes maxima. I don't know why. I took the switch apart, couldn't see any problem with it and put it back together. It has worked fine since.

There is a limit switch built into the window motor that senses any obstructions (like a child's arm) and backs the window down so no one gets hurt. Sometimes the switch needs to be reset, so the motor knows where the top of the window frame is. These are really sensitive, and can be affected by a change in temperature that slightly changes the body dimensions. Sometimes just cleaning the road grime out of the window run and lubing it will cure the problem, otherwise the door finisher has to come off to do a reset.

But how can I reset the motor. I found this, but it's said for the coupe only. I tried it and it didn't work.

This is really common I think, because it happens pretty often in my car on the drivers side, happens on my friends c230 benz and my friends maxima.

Problem fixed by resetting the actuator

Procdure is as follows:
Roll the window up
Then hold the reset button while rolling the windows down (not using auto)
Release the reset button when it reaches the botton and roll back up (not using auto).

wow kwiniarz thanks for bumping this old thread i never saw it before. IT WORKED for me !! thanks alot man i appreciate it the passenger window has annoyed the hell outta me. but it was dumb of me for jumping outside at midnight trying to do this in my apartment parking lot. the security guard saw someone in my car and came over to check what was going on. i also took apart the entire aluminum door to get to the inside. all i had to do was peel back that damn sticker ! owell well worth it for me it has been such an annoyance for the last 6 months.

I have this same exact problem only its on my driver side window. I would like to try the following procedure below, however, what and where is the actuator?

take off the 1st layer of the door you will see in the middle of the silver aluminum 3 gold color bolts...behind that is the actuator..peel back the black sticker in the middle of it and it will uncover a rubber button. you can then do the reset procedure.

has anyone had a problem when it just rolls down by itself in the middle of the night? I have came out to the car and the pass window is the only one that is rolled down? From what I have notice it only happens sometimes when it rains. Help me please.

maybe it's because the plug for the window up/down buttons isnt all the way in...take off your door panel and see if it's plugged in til it clicks...

i just finished fixing it...it worked like a charm...when you guys do it, remember to make sure you unplug the puddle light and to take out the screw behind the aluminum door handle bar...the actual reset button is behind a black leather looking sticker around the gold bolts...those were the only areas you guys might get stuck on...it's very easy to do...
