Re: What are the holes for?

Apparently they're for mounting a spare key, so that you can unlock the car after refueling....

Re: What are the holes for?

Well now that we've answered the question to the thread, I have one other kind of funny little thing that I did that was related to the auto door locking. Once left the car with the windows down in my parents drive way, I had used the key fob to roll down the windows after having the car locked to air it out. Walked away for a while, then my girlfriend went to get something out of the car. It had been more then 45 seconds so the doors auto locked. So she unlocked the door (reached in through the open window) car alarm goes off, luckily I'm standing right there. Haven't tried to do that one again.

Re: What are the holes for?

Most alarms work that way. You opened the door without disarming the system (using the key fob or the key itself in the door).

Now, anybody want to answer the original question? I think we've discussed door locks quite enough in this thread.

Re: What are the holes for?

I have an old J30 that has a button to release the gas lid.

I normally only open the drivers door when I get in unless the family is with me.

I got out of the car and realized that I had not released all the doors. Teh Gas lid will not release unless all the doors (two pushes on the button) are open.

I did not say I got locked out just trying to say that this does happen and as an engineer I was just bringing it up so no one whould have problems

I always mention stuff as an engineer I always try to design to idiot proof. This feature on the car seems idiot proof but I have discovered on numerous occasions that there is always a bigger idiot out there.

This could become an issue of embarrasment if someone is in the car an you do hit the remote then the car lcoks and the person inside gets out and the alarms goe off etc. Did that on tank two when my kids were in the car.

Takes a little to get used to not having a release for the gas lid.

Have a healthy day!

Re: What are the holes for?

Is it possible those holes are for mounting underbody aero-pieces? I've just put some on my Coupe and 2 mounted very closely to that area. Just a thought......

I wonder if the Japanese-Spec Skylines have those holes there...Finding that out might be a start to answering the question...I'm stumped...So far Gsedanman's guess is the best explanation...

Re: What are the holes for?

The problem I see with using the holes for body kits is that the holes are only on the passenger side rear.

Re: What are the holes for?

I'm not sure what the holes are for but what if the guy had his window cracked when he got out of the car to go into the station to go take a dump or something. Then came back out and needed to fill up. He had all the doors locked but then un-locked them with the remote to gain access to the fuel filler. Then not wanting to hold onto the keys or put them in his pocket he threw then through the cracked window onto his seat. Then after 45 seconds the locks re-engaged and he was locked out with only a small window crack that he couldn't fit his arm through.

You can all just call me Sherlock. The case is solved.

Now I need to solve the case of the mysterious holes.
