Installed 05 18 inch sports on my X today...

Hello all,

Got the 05 18inch sports installed on my X today. Running it on Avon M550 245/45/18 now. The 18 inch filled up a little of the fender gap and the car looks so much better now . The 17 was just too small for the G. I paid the installer $150 today to unmount the 17's, take out the TPMS, aired it back up, put the TPMS into the 18's, set it up with the Avon's and balance it. Is $150 a fair deal?

Did a quick turn before at an intersection and I still see "slip light" but no screams like the turanza. I know these are not summer tires but do they need to break in for it to stick better?

Attached are a few pics I took today.

For once I can actually accept the fender gap on my X. When I had the 17's the gap was just huge everywhere. Now the 18's filled it up a little all around and it sticks closer to the fender a bit more. Still waiting for aftermarket springs for the X though.

Oh...I am selling my 17's with Turanza's if anyone is interested. A couple of the wheels have some scratches but not too big. The tires have about 8,800 miles and alot of thread left. Looking for local pickup. I am in NYC.

I would love to go to 18" like you did Mikee, but the choices in good all season tires are so limited. By the way, that area looks so familiar.

Yeah, for 235/45/18, a good all season doesn't really exist, thus I went with 245/45/18 all season Avon's.

thanks - there's so many look alikes these days it's hard to tell for us old fogeys.

I actually have an '05 with 18" rims and want to put 245 wide pilot a/s's on them but am concerned that a 245 may be too wide for the 7.5" stock rim - and the result may be increased body roll or softened turning.

The tires pictured above seem to sit fairly well on the stock rims though so maybe I shouldnt be concerned.

I'd like to smack the engineer that chose 235/45-18 as the stock size. Options in that size suck and I see it as a safety issue. the turanazas that came with my car are awuful.

anyway - appreciate any other comments you may have...

That, my friend, looks sweet. I'd love to get me some 18's w/ sticky summer tires, and use my 17's during the winter months with snow tires.

G looks classy w/o the spoiler. JMO for now. Don't flame me all of you w/ spoilers. I'm sure I change my mind back and forth a few times.

I checked the tire pressure and bumped it up to 33 psi. That's the recommended psi for the 18 sports rim (at least with the summer tires that it comes with from the factory). The installer did 32 psi for me. Also, came back home and re-torque everything to 80 lb.

Smack him for me when you get a chance. The Avon's I have fits 7.5 - 9 inch rims. It doesn't really buldge out much at all if there is any. I would of gotten 245/40/18 if I can lower my X (but no springs yet). Plus if I run 245/40/18 the fender gap will increase a bit so I went with the 45 series which lessens .2 inch of fender gap. I learned it from the man CHICO !!!

CHICO...you reading this?

another tire pressue question for those w/ 17's....

I know too little is dangerous. 35 psi is recommended. What is too much?

I hear increasing the psi helps w/ handling, fuel econ, etc....

Can't thank you enough - you've given me hope that the stock rims are usable with a 245 wide tire.

It's personal preference - but I would run 35 or 36 all the way around.

thanks again for your help and for posting these pics.

Am off to do donuts till I burn off those silly mickey mouse turanza's.
